Great Central Anyone?

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Great Central Anyone?

Post by Zackybong1 »

I heard a long while ago, that there were rumours of the Great Central London Extension (Marylebone to Sheffield) in the pipeline. If anyone has any details of who was involved or any updates and news, could they let us know as I for one am very interested.

Cheers
Zack.

Hi

Me, Boeing and Atlantis are currently working on the GCR, initially from Nottingham to Leicester. I will work on the track, Boeing scenery placement, atlantis the 3D work. I have almost finished proper tracklaying from Nottingham to Leicester, with only a few miles to Leicester, and a few bits of station and yard track at Nottingham to finish once I've got my head my round it  I will post some screenshots soon, I said i'd do some before but everything was getting on top of me (hypothetically speaking of course), however I think the route will be worth the wait, and I want to get the track as good as I can get it before I send it on to Boeing.

Hi

It may get to the capital, but first of all, we are all relative newcomers to MSTS route building in the public domain, so we would like to start off small. I have double track layed to Annesley in the northern direction, but I would rather wait for work on V2 before I work on all the sidings etc on that part of the line. I have info for the whole line, so there should be no problem there, although it may take several years to get from Annesley to London on a virtual train

Hi all

Chris, you're in the process of doing Nottingham to London.... How much of the scenery around Nottingham Station have you done??? I'm in the early stages of creating the Nottingham ExpresS Transit, which starts from on top of the old viaduct that was used by the... (and I'm showing my ignorance of railway history, here)..the viaduct the line from Victoria Station used.

MeridianNick is also doing a route tha passes through Nottingham....and it seems a waste of effort everyone doing their own thing on the same buildings. I'd be willing to share things I've done with others....

What do you think of us all collaborating on common scenery objects???

Cheers

Hi Doug

If you see my 'what I've been up to' thread, you can see that I am doing it in collaboration with Atlantis and Boeing126. Boeing is doing the scenery, all I am doing is track, so I think a PM tp him would be a good idea. Its a good idea though to share stuff though.

That line on the viaduct over Midland Station was the GCR from Loughborough through Weekday Cross tunnel to Victoria, Doug, so it's Chris's line.

Incidentally, I'm also doing my level best (which isn't brilliant, but...) to build a version of the Nottingham - Newark - Grantham triangle, in UKFineScale and set in the steam era. Mine is VERY fictional in that I have limited access to archive material this side of the pond, and my skills are limited, but every little helps.
Unfortunately my scenery and object building skills are non-existent - I have enough trouble laying track where I want it. However, what I can do to help, if anything, I will.

Maybe we need an 'East Midlands Route Builders Group' :-)

Hey, what have I started here??

Whatever it is, I'll try to play my part....

But first, a strange but interesting fact. The GCR line is indeed Chris's route...which must be pre-Beecham (wash my mouth out with soap!!). The route I'm building uses a five arch stretch of the very same viaduct that used to run over Midland Station, but is totally different. Firstly, its a 21st century route...the first line of Nottingham's tram system, but instead of going underneath Weekday Cross, it goes over the top. So, we have two totally separate routes using the same few hundred yards of space.....

And I've travelled on both of the real things. I remember going down to London from Victoria in less than 2 hours, hauled by steam! But I remember very little about Victoris Station itself.

Back on the main plot, and having levered my brain into gear, I guess that the only common scenery objects between Chris's and my routes would be the main Midland Station building and some of the older buildings in Station Street... And Nick will be interested as well...I think!

Other than this, I'd be prepared to help where I can.

Cheers

Hi

Sounds interesting, although the only thing I am thinking about at the moment is how to create the pig that is Nottingham Victoria's trackwork, it will be a masterpiece if I can manage it

Hi Doug,
As you are in the process of doing the Nottingham Tram Route, why not open a topic on this in the Trams & Tramways Forum, after all, this Forum was created to further the developement of Trams & Tramways for Microsoft Train Simulator.
I'm sure other tram enthusiasts would welcome this request.

Hi Geoff

I did open a thread...but its aged and disappeared off page 1.

Perhaps I should post a reply to jump it back into focus.

Chris

I just thought. My dad had a few books containing old photos of Nottingham. I'll look to see if any are of Victoria Station. BTW, did you know the brickwork of the tunnel mouth running south is visible from the car park under Victoria Centre?? And the station was built is one heck of a hole...I think it was dug for the station!

Cheers
