Thames-Mersey - the first problem case!

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Thames-Mersey - the first problem case!

Post by alisterbetts »

Always me... :( I've been running 2.0 for ages with no problems - upgraded to v3.0 this morning, followed the install instructions etc, MSTS loads fine but I get the dreaded message of death right at the end of the setting up the procedure.... I've re-installed fully, run thro r-riter and racked my brains but cam't work out the problem. Any suggestions?

I installed ok but when running northwards with the 3dts duchess and 16 coaches consist, I got a crash to desktop just before milepost 116.

No error message, the machine just frose and my cursor appeared. Left click of mouse button resulted in visit to desktop.

Cheers,
Stewart.

Hi

Turn down your settings, and also make sure that Mersey 3 overwrites you Mersey 2 (dont delete v2 beforehand), and run the V3 Bat file.

Just a thought.......do you use Train Store?

If so, ALL the MSTS Default Routes need to be enabled before running installv3.bat.

Try emptying some of the "Paths" directory too - that speeds up loading!

My system has totally shut-down, twice at Harrow and Wealdstone and once at the north end of Rugby (avoiding line) using the Euston to Lime Street path provided, with all other paths removed for storage. The monitor goes into standby, pc power light remains on but all other items go off, mains power has to be totally switched off and then on before a reboot can be done.

This is when using the steam version of the route, I have yet to try the overhead version.

Other than that, all seems to be OK and the frame rate is a good 20 fps or more for most of the time.

My pc spec is slightly more than that quoted in the readme, namely AMD 2600+, similar graphics and memory, and a 15in monitor at 1024x768.

Thats your CPU overheating....bios will turn it off to save it cooking...I've got the same chip....and its running pretty warm....53-55c....but I've got a cooler running.....or maybe your setting are a bit low....have a look in the bios....but dont up it too much or you may damage your chip.

Jon,

Checked the Bios, temp is a steady 59 deg C, but there is a bios overtemp setting, set by default to 50%, a new one on me, nevertheless have had no problems until today.

Thanks for that one Jon.

Well I re-installed the whole Mersey set from scratch, chose my sim and got 'failed to save activity explore.act'. Think I'll just wait for the CD after a day wasted......

Hi Alister
What memory have you got....because that sounds like a lack of Windows resources...this route is really strectching machines(MSTS) today.
Move it into a route folder on its own(once you've run the bats files)....remove most of the paths..and then fire it up....my machine must have taken 5-6mins this morning to generate terrain buffers...but its fairly settled down now...although still being a bit of a pig in AE. :fadein:

Got about 15gig spare which should be enough. Have tried running it on its own and with most of the paths removed so just can't work this one out.

Hi
No sorry I meant RAM...as the route is so large it would appear MSTS is taking alot of resources ?....I dont have anything running in the background anyway...but it would be best to check.

Hi Alister
That is brilliant news...perhaps this post could be renamed...first problem case...resolved. :D
As your the Sulzer man could you post your knowledge of Peak workings out of Euston...I believe they did so for about 18months between 1959 and 1961?
Cheers

Yep - will give more detail later but in brief the Cl44s worked off Camden for the first couple of years of their lives before being packed off to Toton and replaced with buckets. After that, very rare apart from on tours with the notable exception of 45113 which worked Euston-Liverpool (on mk3s) twice in a week in 1987 vice 86/7 - and it kept time. It worked in Tues & Thurs - needless to say when I covered it on the Weds it was a 47!!!!

Just to keep the record straight regards my pc shutting down, fingers crossed problem is solved, at least sufficient to allow a run from Euston to Nuneaton.

I recently upgraded both motherboard and CPU and it seems the pc was running in safe mode, although that is not the default setting for the bios. After much setting and resetting of the bios the pc is now running with the safe mode disabled. On completion of the run at Nuneaton I checked the cpu temperature to find it was 63deg C, just four more than when the machine was tripping out, c'est la vie!
