GWR Paddington to Penzance

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Hi
And welcome to the forums. :D
I dont know if you have noticed that the forums are divided into different sections....this one is to discuss building routes.
However the route you require is available on CD from UKTS...look on the left side of the main page for CD ordering.

Heres a link to help
http://members.uktrainsim.com/ordercd.php?

Cheers :P

PS It is a work in progress....but is fully scenerised between Exeter to Plymouth....and is a work of art IMHO. :D

Hi Chris,

Thanks,
Ran a western through Box recently ...took ages for the diesel smog to clear !!!! LOL !!

Hi Jonathan,
On the original Cd we had branches for Kingswear, Dart Valley, Launceston, Princetown, St Ives, Helston, Newquay and many more , but I'm not sure about above Exeter as I'm only the model maker . The route layer is Derick Joy you can drop him a line if you wish.

Glad to see that the interest in Paddington to Penzance is still there . :)
In answer to the question about branch lines - below is an AE shot depicting the section of the route from Taunton to Paddington - lots of branch lines. In fact, most of the branch lines that existed in 1950 are installed although some are deliberately omitted. If I didnt do that, the route would extend to Oxford, South Wales...... etc - ultimately the entire GWR.

Track laying is 99% complete (all with the correct gradient) - just a few more sidings and crossovers and that part is done.
The route would be nothing without Dave's models and below is the latest one installed - the Box Tunnel's east portal.

Not sure if you are in breach of the Official Secrets Act showing the east end of Box. I was on a TV crew following the GWR from Paddington to Bristol (about 20 years ago) and we weren't allowed to show any detail, particularly the line on the right. By the time the director and producer got home from the recce Special Branch were waiting to find out what we were doing.
Not sure if I should say any more.

I am really looking forward to this route - please keep us all posted with progress! I am glad to see from the route diagram that my home city of Wells is indicated on the Yatton-Witham branch. It will be interesting to see the B&ER / ESR / S&DR trackwork and all three stations for England's smallest city :D

BTW, are you including enough stock to model the (alleged) Strategic Reserve in the caverns by Box Tunnel? ;) Oops - probably opened another can of worms .. sorry!

Dear Ross,

I was stationed in an RAF base very close by ( for whom the armaments were for the intend of ). As i understand it , it's now a museum and can be seen on a very friendly website ...so we should be oK .....!!!
but you do have a point... you sign the official secrets act ...and it's binding for as long as you live ...you never come off it ......and I'm not dead yet , so........

Ross,
Ever mindful of public safety, Dave did include the warning sign...

GWR Route Possible Didcot Junction

Post by LocoLes »

Hi Dave & Derick
I am glad to hear that Phase II is progressing well and you have managed to sort out the problems on Reading, Didcot and Bristol Loop.
I was hoping that Phase II would include the junction at Didcot to Oxford, but I suppose on a such a large project as this you have to draw the line somwhere.
Keep up the good work.

Regards

Les

Not all the stations have been added but when they have, I will certainly post the route showing all stations. It will have to be done in sections or else the names will overlap. Below is a displayable part of the Reading to Paddington section.
