Which short(ish) routes would you like to see for MSTS?

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

My preference would be BR days 1950 - 1960. LNER Pacifics at Doncasster, black steam engines everywhere else, green diesels, early DMU's, EM1 electris at Sheffield - ah, the memories!!

Tim
me abd laverack 2 are starting to build this route as a part of a chain round yorkshire and doncaster and sheffeild are both included

btw it is modern day

Cardiff Central-Barry Island.

Only about 10 miles in length. But would be very interesting scenery wise.

Indeed it would be. The only difficult bit would be the modelling of Central and Canton.

would love to see the Merseyrail system built, both Northern and Wirral lines, since it willl have lots of AI activity and will be interesting to see if you can keep to the punctual service!

I'd like to see the Line from Darlington to Tebay via Barnard Castle and Kirby Stephen East. I think this was known as the Stainmore route and runs through a very scenic area with lots of gradients. The route could also have a few miles of East and West coast mainline at each end to provide a bit more traffic variety.

How about the part of the Somerset & Dorset which most people seem to forget about: The branch from Evercreech Junction to Highbridge / Burnham on Sea.

Yes I would like to see this route too. Even better would be the complete railway network in the Avon & Somerset area as it was pre the beaching axe. Including the lines to Clevevon, Blagdon, Wells via Congresbury & Cheddar, the Yate-Thornbury line, Lawrence Hill-Bath via Staple Hill, Mangotsfied, and Warmley, the Radstock line via Brislington & Pensford. This is all way before my time of course, but I'd have great fun driving this network!

Merseyside Railways has the northern lines and may include the Wirral lines in a future version (not sure). NWE also has the northern lines, but with the Liverpool Exchange and the Liverpool Central termini instead of the tunnel. And PaulH2 (I think) has been planning a Merseyrail route.

What we need is a really good 507/508...

Nottingham area, post-war. With Midland, Great Northern and Great Central lines all around, the old Nottingham Suburban line through Thorneywood, collieries all over the place, Victoria Station, Mansfield... places long since abandoned by tracks.
London Tilbury and Southend under steam; anywhere in rural Essex and Suffolk..
or north Derbyshire - Miller's Dale and Tideswell, Buxton to Matlock still in one piece...
Or my favourite trap for the unwary - the Listowel and Ballybunnion in Ireland...

Merseyside Railways - Future Developments

Post by ccsdc »

Version 4 of Merseyside Railways, due for release end July 2004, will include all the Wirral lines. Version 2 already has the Northern electrified lines.

After version 4 is complete I plan to do 1950's version of the whole route which will include the LOR and Liverpool Exchange and Central termini.

Ah, the Listowel and Ballybunion - that'd be a challenge for the track texture specialists! Take a look at http://homepage.eircom.net/~lartiguemonorail/ for more.

This is a true story about the L & B: one day, the railway was given the job of taking a cow from one end of the line to the other. Now as the cow was a heavy beastie, they had to put something on the other side to balance it a bit. So a piano (the stationmaster's?) was commandered and put in the other side of the wagon. Cow delivered, there was then the job of getting the piano back! So two sheep were borrowed and they balanced the piano. Then at the other end, the sheep were each put on one side of the wagon and taken back home. Problem solved!

Taken from a Tom Rolt book. You couldn't make this sort of stuff up! :D
