Problems laying track...

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Problems laying track...

Post by bristolian »

Hello all,

Before anybody starts :D , I have 'The step by step guide to building routes' pdf by Michael Vone!
Right, for some reason, my RE won't let me delete a section of track by selecting it (highlighting in red) and pressing the delete key. Nor will it let me alter the position of points by pressing the T key, or lowering the first track section to the trackbed correctly aligned.

I've tried it with caps lock on, and off, and re-installed the sim. I'm using UKFS trackwork.

Any ideas why, HELP please!!!

Thanks in advance, Bob.

Yes it does, but I also can't get the wireframe view of the terrain.
I'm at a loss..

Thanks, Bob.

Eww... that sounds nasty. Is it a route with much in it, or a new one? If an old route with lots in it, it may have become corrupt. Try working from a backup.

If it's a new route that sounds like MSTS is knackered. Have you got 899 consists or more in your TRAINS/CONSISTS folder?

right.

I don't have the Route builders guide (never been much good at reading instructions).

Firstly a few keys to aid in your Route Building.

W - Toggle Wireframe mode for Terrain.

N - Level any object in the Route Editor While Selected.

J - Refresh terrain.

T - Rotate Track Section or Road Section.

Y - Bring terrain to bottom of Track Piece.

F2 - Toggle Select Mode For Objects. (NOTE toggle mode on and OFF).

F3 - Move Object mode.

F4 - Rotate Mode.

F5 - Placement mode.

F9 - terrain edit mode

Now, On with your Problem.

It looks like you have got wrong selection.
Also I found a few Of UKFS tracks difficult to select at times.
For Learning the Route Editor Use only the Default track. It's best to learn how to walk before you try to run. ;)

Right. get selection mode toggled to ON.

eg hovering over a track piece will turn it red. (CLick with left mouse Button).

Now that track section should go almost see through with the Wire frame bits. :) (we are not going to even mention terrain here).

Now you have your Track section looking like a frame of that track section. Use F3 and toggle Move mode ON. :)

Move the tracksection somewhere. anywhere. (USE "CTRL" key {held down} to Keep it at the same height while moving track section)

now change to placement mode. (F5)

place a new track section joined to the current one.

Don't de-select the new track section or if you do re-select it with the selection mode (F2).

With the Track Section selected it will let you goto Rotation Mode (F4), goto Rotation mode now. :)

Use the mouse (left button and hold) to rotate the track up and down. :)

you should now be abled to Place select move and rotate track sections. ;)

Hopefully this will Allow you to do just about most of the route building stuff :D (the guide may help with other requied bits but as I said I don't have it)

Regards

He means:

N - align the base of the selected object with the current ground slope (i.e. pretty useless for trees and man made structures)

H - makes the object horizontal.
