Marker Files

Post by kyle14uk »

I seem to be having trouble with these. I have completed a marker file and when I enter my route every thing seems to be ok, the marker files on my starting tile are shown correctly. However when I leave my starting tile no other marker files seem to appear. Instead the RE just repeats the markers off my starting tile onto the one I have moved onto.

Any ideas why? Help appreciated.

Cheers,
Kyle :)

At least you get one marker - I don't get any!

I know they are all there - because Jumper uses them to move around effortlessly - they just don't show up...

I've noticed a similar problem, but not as bad, where sometimes if I have been editing for a while, the same set of markers (i.e. one tile) spills over and appears on every tile. Exiting and restarting seems to solve the problem, and it is usually fairly rare though.

Markers disappearing

Post by ccsdc »

I think what causes it is if you have used the button to go into the terrain tile mode, the one where you see all the gridlines. I find by jumping away about 10 tiles and then jumping back it sometimes corrects the problem or just closing RE and restarting always correct it. Another MSTS gliche!!

Thanks - that sounds spot on as I think I have only seen it while doing terrain. :)

This must be catching.

I have 200 odd markers in a file in the route directory which I can open and the entries are OK. I can jump to the marker positions using MSTS Poker and end up in the right place. I cannot see them in RE and it doesn't allow me to tick the option in the View menu. It is a bare route (no track or objects placed yet) so I tried placing a random piece of track, still no markers. I have quit RE and re-opened and I have re-booted the PC. I have re-saved the start tile. I can see markers in other routes. I have run out of ideas. Anybody got any clues?

If RE won't allow you to check the 'show markers' option then you have an error in your marker file, possibly a missing bracket, an 'oh' instead of a zero, a marker location with no text above the flag, a marker with an invalid flag type (i.e. not a 0, 1 or 2), the 'SIMISAJINX' line has a wrong character in it, or some other error I have not encountered that is corrupting the .mkr file.

Check that the marker file has the unicode header line, ie:

SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0I0t______
Marker ( -0.6199864048108188 54.47698898186087 Prospect_Hill_points_Speed20 2 )
Marker ( -0.6128798608046391 54.47789098694567 Bank 2 )
etc.

I've been locked out of the forum all day due to this changeover business. I will have another check of the file now and report back.

Success. One entry without a marker type screwed the whole thing. One weekend wasted. Doh!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

An MSTS bug. The Highworth marker files did this to me once I had a decent sprinkling of objects on a few tiles. I can only suggest you fly the camera slowly (not in shift mode) and your markers should retain their ability to draw correctly for longer.

What I tend to do these days is lay all my track first along the markers, then follow said markers again with road crossings and whatever major features I wish to depict such as farms, woods, etc and make written notes of these in my scribble book. Then I usually bin the marker file as it becomes so unreliable.
