The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Well, I'll be extending my route as far as Gloucester. Was considering extending it to Birmingham New Street a fair while ago, but was put off by how complex the trackwork will be in the Birmingham area. :(

I am extremely new to MSTS, having just come across from BVE. If I am able to get my head around route building, and that my attempt at the Lickey would work well enough, THEN I would certainly attempt to extend it.
My initial idea for the Lickey arose out of its' performance and operational interests.

Best wishes to all, Bob.

The extension to Gloucester will be going ahead in about a month or two. As for Birmingham though.........naaah I'll leave it at Gloucester. Wouldn't like to tackle the extremely complex trackwork of New Street, and besides It'll delay starting work on the scenery even more!

Someone should do a Cardiff-Birmingham route, or even Bristol-Birmginham(and beyond to Derby, Manchester, etc?)

Bromsgrove shed had lots of MR/LMS 0-6-0Ts of both 1F and 3F varieties. (see LMS engine sheds vol 2) and some 0-6-0 tender versions I think.

The 0-10-0 was a bit of an experiment, only 1 was produced.

Later transferred to WR and acquired pannier tanks.

Aren't there some 66s specially modified with lights for Lickey now?

"Just slightly steeper than the 1 in 40 of the Worsborough Bank on Woodhead."

Is that the Wath incline? Weren't the huge Garratts built specially for banking on that? Has anyone done any steam-era activities to simulate this? :)

Yes but I don't thnk it was ever known as that - Wentworth Incline is the other name I've heard of. The 2-8-8-2 Garratt 6999 did work this one before being convert to Oil Fired and sent to the Lickey. They used to run more ordinary steamers, two at the front and two banking. Strangely in BR blue era, you could still see the 76's in a similar formation but with just one driver per pair - each controlling two engines.

How much work would be involved in putting gradients into the Woodhead Route? :P

Hi

Would anyone object to me having a quick stab at this over Christmas? I've seen no evidence of any other attempts, and I think I have enough expierience to get it finished over a few weekends. If someone could give me a track plan though for bromsgrove and Blackwell it would help alot. Could even be the start for a longer route.

Hi

This route is just something for me to work on when to bored/tired to work on my main routes. Also, it will be basic, using no (or little, depending whether someone would like to knock up something for me) custom scenery. I will have abit of mainline ay either end so that trains can arrive properly. This is not a serious route, just something for people to have a play around with.

After an hours work with DEM/UKFS/embankments I have the double track from bromsgrove to Blackwell, although I need trackplans to finish off the rest of the track.

To make things a bit more interesting, when you're more confident in route building you may want to consider adding in the old MR loop line from Barnt Green to Redditch/Studley & Astwood Bank/Coughton/Broom Junction/Salford Priors/Harvington & Evesham - or even extending it right down to Ashchurch. This line now terminates at Redditch station - which is not at the same place the original station was. This loop also joined the GW branch from Bearley and the long defunct Stratford on Avon & Midland Junction Railway (aka the Slow, Mouldy & Jolty Railway) at Broom Junction.
