Call to all Route Builders

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Call to all Route Builders

Post by NeutronIC »

Hi folks

It's been a while since we had any new CD's on the site and at the moment I haven't got time to rectify that myself, but we're always being asked about it so I want to ask for anybody out there who can help!

There's a good number of new routes out such as North West England, Picadilly Line, South Weald Light Railway, Welsh Highlands and so forth.

Would someone be willing to compile some CD's for everyone, if not the author then someone who is simply a fan of the route for example?

On the CD, I ideally need:
The route itself (duh :) )
Any required files such as XTracks, UK Finescale, Magnetic Platforms etc
Installation Documentation
Activities
Good selection of Rolling Stock

Even more ideally, I like the CD's to be self installing - I have an agreement with Okrasa Ghia regarding the use of XTracks in self installing routes which I can outline, I have tools for building installers and making CD autorun menu screens. At the minimum if someone else can provide all the zip's I can find the time to package it up, but if someone wants to take on the rest, I'll get you licenses for the tools that need it.

This doesn't just apply to UK Routes or routes on this site - if you can get permissions from the respective people then any route from anywhere - we get asked about all kinds of routes, not just UK ones.

I can't offer much in the way of recompense to anyone except subscriptions to the site unfortunately.

If you can help, drop me a note and let me know what you can get doing!

Matt.

HI Matt,

I now have a CD with SWLR Beta and Haute Somme on it, plus a goodly amount of rolling stock.

I';\ll mail this when I've completed and tested some activities, and once the more obvious bugs are worked out of the beta.

Is there a handy freeware untility to build CD installer routines?

Matt

I would be happy to do NWE, if Terry doesn't mind - there are some good activities appearing already and I'll do a few, though I don't have as much time as I used to at the moment.

For the installers, i've been using Innosetup (http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php) because I like the way it works (it's scripted, rather than using a wizard).

For the CD Autorun, i've registered something called MakeCD, I used it for the Paddington Penzance CD and was really happy with the results - I can stick an Autorun on the CD if you wish.

Incidentally, as a general comment, somebody else asked me whether they'd have to distribute the CD as well - no, what i'm asking for is people to put the CD's together and then send me what they've done along with what needs to be done (if anything) to get to a master state, the more you've done the more quickly it well get online because as I say, i'm swamped. I'd then put the CD's on the normal CD ordering screen as well as probably include them in the CD pile we take to give away at exhibitions. If you want to distribute the CD's yourself then that is entirely up to you and of course a matter of gaining permissions from the authors for that too :)

No problems, Alan... be my guest... anyway it then gives me time to dust down my virtual theodolite with a view to extending NWE...
Note a patch (v1.1) will be available very soon (just corrects some minor issues... all current activites should still work a-ok)
Look forward to your activities.
Cheers,
Terry

As I say, XPTE, no time :)

That's another one i'd love to get on to a CD with all the relevant rolling stock and a selection of activities - we're regularly asked by people about electric stuff and all we have for CD's at the moment is steam and diesel.

Ant chance of Merseyside Railway or perhaps the Corris with an updated Talyllyn on a CD, aggod routes but I can't download them, or I could it would just take hours!! I'd certainly purchase NWE should it be released, as it models my local line to college!

I'd love to do a CD Matt, but I don't have the time at the moment, A-Levels beckon on the horizon, maybe I could do one in the Summer, when I'm not on the SVR (real thing!)

Im assuming, though i ahvent seen it mentioned, that is applies to freeware only.

Obviously someone cant repackage a mixture of payware and freeware onto the CD's.

I would be buying a lot more then.
I prefere routes on CD, because yeah, most do come with activities, and there is no complicated installation.

All i ask is that a CD is sent to someone for testing.
AND: Matt, might it be possible to say that the more you order, the cheaper it gets?
i want to be uploaded
