Help needed with Bala Patch

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Help needed with Bala Patch

Post by iainstronach »

Can anyone help me please?

I have installed the Bala Patch and I am able to run the first activity leaving Bala Junction for Blaenau Ffestiniog.
I get as far as Manod when I get the following message

“No extended shape data for uk1t50mStrt.sâ€

Hi Iain

Its a shape file from UKNG. Have you installed Xtracks 3.7. If so you do not need to install the old UKNG as it is now included in Xtracks 3.7. Must be very frustrating getting to Manod and see Blaenau stretch out before you :(

Thanks for your help Gordon

I reinstalled xtracks 3.7 and the problem was solved.

I have been to Blaenau and I have seen the Promised Land, and I must say it was worth the effort.

Your route looks and feels so real.

I used to travel down that valley by car when we had a caravan at porthmadog and I used to see the remains of the track up the hill side.

I never thought then that I would be driving a train along that line on a computer simulation.

Thanks for helping me out; can’t wait for the cd version.

I'm also having a nightmare. I get just north of Bala heading towards Blaeneau and the track has no texture it just floats in the air. It then disappears straight into a hillside (no derailment mind!) through it and out the other side. The whole route from then on is floating in the air.

I've installed the route from the Ruabon Llangollen Barmouth CD and followed the instructions in the patch to the letter. I get the following error message when running the installMe.bat file (automatically after UpdateMe.bat):

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\ROUTES\Llangollen>deltree /y " detree is not recognised as a internal or external command
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\ROUTES\Llangollen> RD /s /q "..Llangollen Patch
the system cannot find the file specified

HELP ME WHAT CAN I DO? Gordon??!!

Hi tdurbo

Apart from the missing track texture and running into a mountain (maybe corrupt file) it sounds as if the terrain buffers have not been regenerated for some reason. When RouteRiter compresses a route it strips out the "e" and "n" raw files in the tile folder. When a route is installed and first run MSTS regenerates them.

First thing to do is test your update files in Winzip or Winrar. Open the zip and click on test in Winzip. Not sure what it is called in Winrar but there is a test archive in that too.
If that comes up with errors then its download again time I'm afraid. If that comes up with no errors then open the Llangollen folder then open the Tiles folder and check if there are "e" and "n" raw files. If there are only "y" raw files the buffers have not been regenerated for some reason. Only thing I can think of is if the Llangollen folder is read only. Check that, if it is then you will have to write enable it.

Don't worry tdurbo, we will get you to the promised land of Blaenau as Iain calls it, one way or another :) .

By the way I have seen those error reports in XP. Ignore them it's just the batch file trying to clean up after itself and not finding the deltree command in XP.

Mr The Gopher,
You are a genius, and your scenery's not bad either! Just rattled up to Blaenau with County of Wiltshire and its beautiful! As good as something you'd pay £25 for if not better.

I was trying to re-instal from an already unzipped Llangollen Patch folder from when I first installed the route (never got as far as going up to Blaenau so don't know if that was right or not). When I re-unzipped the quirky 5-file zip thing again it worked a treat this time!

That'll teach me to p*ss about with Route Riter. Thought the other day, "Hmm maybe I'll try and save some disk space...I'll try the util that everyone rates so highly".

Cue a complete re-instal of MSTS from top to bottom <SIGH>

Where I was going wrong was I'd forgotten I'm stupid :D

PS Gordon crack on with the Rhyl extension you know it makes sense

Well done getting it going. Don't knock RouteRiter too much because without it you would not have the Bala Blaenau branch until the Bala Hub CD is released. RouteRiter is the best thing since sliced bread. Just got to be careful now and again.

Shhhh! You'll be upsetting the commercial sector

Just prettying up the Ruabon Barmouth stretch to match the Bala Blaenau branch for the CD version then it's on with the Corwen Rhyl branch but only as far as Denbigh at the moment I think. Hopefully this will be even more realistic. The modelling is in hand (I hope ) by someone based across the pond.

Once again thanks a lot. And all for cheaper than 20 Marlboro. Including technical support. Bargain!
