From what I can see, you just press F2 and click on the relevant track pieces and the altitude is displayed in the object window. However, the track peices I need to find the altitude of are simply displaying 0.000 in the altitude box. This just can not be right, because before that section I've had the line up on an up gradient and then a sharp downhill gradient so there's no way that the altitude of those track pieces would be exactly 0.000.

Any help please?

Hello X2000.

In the object box in Route Editor the height of the highlighted object appears in the "Y" box. If it is a piece of track, the "Y" value is the level (in metres) at the point the track was laid.
The "elev" box actually reveals the pitch/slope/gradient of the highlighted item.
