West Highland Stage Two

Post by bigvern »

Just thought I'd drop in a quick update on the above.

Trackwork is complete from Crianlarich to Fort William, also Tyndrum Lower on the Oban line. 3D placement is done on the Fillan Valley, i.e. Crianlarich to the Tyndrums, now working up towards Horseshoe Curve. Terrain looking quite good, all credit to Dave Charles' (and his team) for the results from using TS Tools. Some tweaking needed here and there but a vast improvement over using the old A1500r10 road piece to make hills.

Not sure what the ETA is - 3D placement is a funny business and can tie you up unexpectedly. That said, Rannoch Moor is fairly straightforward, a few sections of forest, fencing, telegraph poles and the odd electricity pylon marching across the landscape.

Then there's the interactives to put in, including all the signals, speed limits and platform/siding names on the Mallaig line which I took out in the event of a tdb rebuild. Late July, I hope...

Come on Vern, you are making me homesick - Spent many holidays in that area, can not wait for the route.

Managed to get placement up to County March Sunnit last night. Need to pop into TSM and make up a "summit" sign to go by the lineside.

BTW does anyone know where the power line pylons have gone from the Download section, I can't seem to find them even doing a search. I'm sure there were some in there!

Ref pylons, I've found some by Ron Picardi on TS.com, US based but they look identical to the ones about 200m behind my back garden. (Bzzzzzz...).

Still curious about whether any were ever uploaded here though.

That's awfully confusing - thought you'd suddenly strayed back onto your Far North Line there until had a look at my atlas...!

Great work Vern - hugely look forward to driving it.

There's another County March summit somewhere else, isn't there? Possibly the Highland Mainline, I'm not 100% sure as my Quail is AWOL, but that makes it three! :)

Confusing or what? And just what exactly does 'County March' mean?

You are quite correct, the other "County March" is on the Far North line, between Forsinard and Georgemas at the boundary between Caithness and Sutherland. The one on the West Highland marks the boundary between Perthshire and Argyllshire, so I guess a county march is the border.
