Marker files not co-operating in RE
Evenin' each.
Now then, I'm sure this problem was mentioned somewhere in a previous thread, but I'm afraid I can't locate it - so apologies if I am asking a repeat question.
The problem is that I've just added a number of (probably about 30 or so) extra markers to my route. I did this using TS Tools, so there shouldn't be a problem with the syntax (e.g. it automatically deals with spaces etc.) - I've never had a problem before with the markers.
What happens is that when i load the route up into RE, View--Markers is unticked, and the markers are not shown. It won't let me select View--Markers - that is, I click on View--Markers, and I get back to the main screen in the usual way, but it doesn't show them - and checking the View menu again shows Markers still unticked.
What has gone wrong?
Thanks a lot, each.
PS This problem is only happening with my route - other ones are showing their markers as normal.

hi
is it named exactly the same as your route and is it being saved to your route folder .
e.g. route name micksasse
so marker file is micksasse.mkr

Yes, it is. As I say, I haven't had the problem with this route and this marker file before, and all I've done is to add a number (quite a lot) of new marker points using TSTools. I can't imagine there's a maximum number of markers you can place, is there? (and even if there is, I can't imagine I've reached it yet!)
cheers

Hi,
I can't explain what or why this is happening (assuming you've checked the syntax carefully) but I (and many others) had major problems with marker files when adding extra markers.
The safest approach seems to be to place a tree at the exact long/lat for each position in RE then use the line of trees to build your route in sections finally deleting the trees. I know you can't label them, but it's a safe and effective method.
good luck

None of this surprises me - I do think the markers are flaky (like many things in the RE) - after a while I find they can all move by a great jump - I suppose this is the RE memory leak
Make sure you've got the format bang on:-

I find the safest way to create a marker file is to copy an existing one (eg SettCa.mkr) into my new route, then open it and delete all but the last marker, then copy in my own markers. Save and rename to myroute.mkr and it works well.

Sounds about what I did way back in October 2001 on Woodhead...steam4me wrote:I find the safest way to create a marker file is to copy an existing one (eg SettCa.mkr) into my new route, then open it and delete all but the last marker, then copy in my own markers.
