Help needed re markers

Post by MichaelGreenhill »

Well, I've decided to haev a stab at using marker flags, but only 1 slight problem. They dont bloody well appear in RE!!!. I have tried different versions of the marker file, yes I have tried View | Markers, yes I have searched the forums, but whatever I do, no joy.

This is the marker file at present, those familiar with Victorian placenames will know what route I'm building

Hi

MichaelGreenhill

the Marker file name must be same as your route name

E.G. Brisbane.mkr

this stuff below must be the first line in the Marker file including the underscores

Hi Mike,

You need the longitude value first, followed by the lat if I recall correctly.

Cheers

Its also a good idea to put quotes around the text fields if they have spaces in them - this can cause the RE to choke on the files.

Hi

MichaelGreenhill

also marker files can get upset with spaces eg use derby_to 2

rather than derby to 2

eg this works ok

Marker ( -1.444075 52.913607 derby_to 2 )
Marker ( -1.44452 52.913653 derby_to 2 )

I've found marker files created from scratch end up "problematic" - I now take an existing marker file, delete all the markers, add my own and rename the file to that of the route I'm working on far more satisfactory.

I've gone one step further, and created a simple spreadsheet thct converts the real world lat/long into fractions of lat/long for msts. I then add a field for the marker name and have another field that concatenates the string.

This just gets pasted into the .mkr file - Bob's your auntie's live-in lover.
