Fairly Up To Date England?

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Could this be some play on the old "Modern England"?
I hear there is a new one in the pipeline.

You're dead right - well spotted!

I have just uploaded a route called "Fairly Up-to-Date England" - it is in the hands of the Moderators and will hopefully appear soon. I had a problem uploading one of the files which led to it appearing in the index before it was complete for approval.

It is a fantasy route, developed, with thanks, from James Hunt's Modern England route - the electrification has been removed and the basic effect moved back to the sixties and seventies. The main route has been signalled in Alan Thompson's colour light signals, while a new 30 mile secondary main line has been built and signalled with Edmund Kinder's BR Semaphore signals.

Part of the single track branch has been converted into the preserved South Midland Light Railway (18 miles end-to-end).

A lot of scenic treatment has been added which unfortunately makes the files rather large - best suited to broadband. If there is sufficient interest, I will make arrangements for CD distribution.

There is a stand-alone _INFO file which contains the readme, a route map and some screenshots - I hope this will help you to decide whether to download the rest .

Hope you like it

Best wishes to all

Wow, that's a big route (just had a quick look on the pending list) - about 60 meg - did you route-rite it and remove all the default items before you zipped? :)

Isn't Leen Navin (ArrivaTrains) doing a modern england re-work in the current era?

He was. Maybe he still is but I haven't seen him posting here lately.

Hi all, yes im still working on my version of the route. It is named "UK Regional". Hopefully ill get it released (scenery unfinished in places) sometime before the end of Feb.

Ive already got the "Fairly up to date England" as pete sent it me on Cd to test for him. I think its great, and ill release some activities for it real soon.

Thanks guys,

This route has a few immediate problems. :(

Its in zip format and includes no readme, as to what is contained, what to do with it, and any issues we should be aware of.

Second is that its folder paths are the default MSTS install. Which is no good for many people who dont use the default install. Like me.

It contains a max file of one of the stations, which can be de-meshed and edited.

Running out of London, i got to a very empty area of scenery and the route crashed with a missing ace file :: 0chim.ace

Did you run the installme.bat ?

I downloaded it and installed it without any problems, ran the route for a couple of stations starting somewhere random and all appeared well so I approved it.

Does the 'info' download contain the instructions perhaps, must admit I didn't double check that one.
