Nine Elms

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Nine Elms

Post by cougar25 »

Hi all,

I am thinking and have been looking into creating Nine Elms Shed and Yard for MSTS. What I would like to know is how hard would it be? I have photo's and Trackplan and would like to incorporate it into the obvious choice that is Dorset Coast (If I can)??
Question is how do I go about building it and incorporating it? I'm thinking of shunting in the yard and light engine runs to Waterloo to pick up stock etc.... If anyone would like to help on my Endeavour; it would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Andy

You must first learn to walk before you can run.

Have a read here and see how you get on with something simple first.

If you're going to mess with Dorset Coast, you NEED to have a decent understanding of the Route Editor and everything associated with it.
Kindest regards,
Simon.

I would echo the previous post, but if you decide to jump into the deep end so to speak I would recommend BACKING UP your Dorset Coast Route.

The alternative is to think of it as a full scale model railway and just create Nine Elms. (I have been looking at doing this with a mythical MPD as a means of "playing" with my 1st Gen DMU repaints.)

Good luck, Alec

PS Michael Vone's publication on Route Building is recommended.

And also; I would add - the area around Nine Elms is very heavily populated. You will obviously be removing some objects from the surroundings; but I seem to recall Dave had to abandon an extension to Victoria due to the object count on those tiles. You may therefore have problems adding any further trackwork into the area.

I'd echo Alec's suggestion that you should just try creating it on it's own without impacting on Dorset Coast. You can then extend to a terminal station of your design in order to make it a little easier.

Hi to all interested,

I am doing a version of Nine Elms on what was DCR, and it's not that diffcult to do by itself, but the position of the turntable controlling access to the sheds means that the actual operation in MSTS is rather restricted, and you will only be able to operate the new part of the shed realistically, unless you replace the turntable with points. It's a different story at Stewarts Lane and many other sheds. My version is quite different to Dave's, with adjusted gradients and many old steam routes and goods yards added back in. The tile congestion around Nine Elms seems to be caused by the amount of scenery used. I have stripped some of this away and replaced with backdrops, which has helped to aleviate the problem with low frame rates and floating scenery. If you want an update on what I have done, visit this thread for more.
