Westington - A fictional route.

Post by expressboy1983 »

Morning all. :)

Take a trip along my fictional route, from Westington to Easton. Route is WIP, has been for ages, and probably will be for ages more! I will however be releasing it in it's current state soon. Ish. "It'll be ready when it's ready!"
(Please note that the coaching stock included in the screenshots is not, and will not be available. It is a botched up job I've done for my own use!)
Also, if you happen to spot an item in the route that is yours, and you have NOT received a PM or Email from me in the last few days, feel free to name both it/them and yourself, and I'll be in touch shortly!

Enjoy. :)

Hi Simon,
Looking good there.
Could be adapted by the down loader, with judicious changes in vehicle types, to appear late 'sixties era.

Green Diesels and Standard Steam and the end of wagon load freight.

A chance for some learning.

I would include some common use stock from the Library or even use Default stock and a Path or two. To kick people off with.

Well done!
Should be good.

Good luck
Doug

Already considering that as a version 2. I would like to convert the signalling to semaphores and, as you say, change everything in the carspawners to vehicles more 'period' in style. Eventually. 8) That in itself requires more learning, so would take me a while.

Dave Robinson (twomanydjs) has kindly given me permission to use one of his newly released 108s, so there will be at least one act and 3 or 4 paths included. I was intent on NOT releasing using default MSTS stock.

Hi Mike,

Indeed! I have run just about everything on this route and the only thing that looked out of place was the 'Seaview Expresses' But again, being fictional, It's just as viable as a regular DMU. :D

Thanks both for the kind words, although the route is not brilliant and riddled with wonkey or crooked buildings, and lumps and bumps where they shouldn't be, I am proud of what I have managed to achieve!
Kindest regards,
Simon.

Well done on managing to avoid default stock!! The Kiha was very silly on that route! Did you fix the buffers I broke though? :p

Can't help you with semaphores, though I'd imagine in pratice they work simpler than in reality so I don't think you have to link a distant signal to three home signals, which to then all 3 have to be clear for a distant to show green (I've confused you now haven't I!)

No you haven't, but no doubt I'll be confused when I get around to looking into it!

No doubt there are people I could PM to ask if I find it too hard to understand though, but I'm sure I'll get there eventually. :)
Kindest regards,
Simon.

Well that was the suggestion, for the down loader to experiment on the route. I.E. Them learning in the process.

Would you prefer to upload a v2 backdated to fifties late sixties?
The road vehicles could be substituted with a little work. Keep me in mind for that if you would like to do.

Good luck

Hi Dougie,
Yes I would indeed be interested in backdating the route. How representative it would be I'm not too sure, but it's all a mean of learning! I will be in touch with you about this in the (hopefully!!) not too distant future. :)

Now for a route update, I have just finished compacting the route for uploading, written the readme and I think that now includes everything it needs to include for people to download, install and go, plus credits! There has been a new section of line added and although it's not very long it is COMPLETELY WIP. Only signals, speed limits, stations interactives and platforms have been put in. It's usable, just very bare!! My interest in the route editor is running on virtually empty at the moment so I think it's best to upload now rather than leave it sitting dormant on my HDD any more than it needs to, then I can recharge the batteries.

I'm just waiting for a reply from Dave about his 108s concerning a small idea I've had and once that has been dealt with it's on to uploading.

I just hope I've done everything right. First time nerves kicking in!
Kindest regards,
Simon.

Hi Simon,

I'm getting the dreaded MSTS white out at the tunnel leading to Westington, and on the section between Quokka and Eston by the factories, there is a signal facing the wrong way it's on the down side heading towards Easton.

I must say you have done a really good job with this route, especialy as it's you first attempt at route building, and the unfinished part doesn't notice as it's in a cutting.

Hi Mike,

Any chance you could screenshot the signal? All signals on my system are facing where they should be.
And where the white out bug is concerned, if you're running MSTS Bin, then white out doesn't exist. As far as I know Bin takes care of it.
There are small sections that I've not patched properly where there are holes in the ground and/or walls, you may be getting it muddled with that.
If you can screen shot either or both it would help me clarify your situation.

And thank you. :)
Kindest regards,
Simon.

Mike,

I think I know which signal you're talking about.
It's the exit signal from the yard onto the mainline.

Hope that helps!
Kindest regards,
Simon.

Afraid that I am also having problems as I am unable to open the route.
I allready have Xtracks, new roads and all the platform kits installed in the main MSTS folder.
I have installed the class 108 DMMU and the two consists that come with the package.
First of all, conbuilder threw up a missing file called BRBG class 108.3, that was easy to put right.
However when trying to open the "Route learning" activity, I get the "Train world initialization failed"
error message.
I have also tried other locos but get the same result.
Don't know where I am going wrong, any help/advice very much appreciated.
Thanks
Andy
edit: Am now also getting error reading train database file for
BR_BG_108s\BR_BG108_DBMS_50629
BR_BG_108s\BR_BG108_DBCL_51572
both engine files look OK to me.

Hi Andy,
Well the Database error could be that the 108 Folder has been renamed the one supplied with the Route is "BR_BG_108s_Westington"

"Train world initialization failed" can be a path error.

Have you used Train store to run the route after installation. Refresh View to set the route into Train Store and run the Act through Train Store.

Good luck
