James Cameron, eat your heart out!

I've just got round to viewing the last three videos of 2010 and once again am mightily impressed. I recall mentioning to Geoff when he first broached the topic of finishing off Scottish Central that it would be nice to have Ladybank to Perth included, though at the time I didn't really expect it to materialise. So I am really glad that Don has put in the hard work of putting in that part of the route, which Geoff has sceneried up to his usual excellent standard. Now it will be possible to drive from Edinburgh to Inverness using SCP, the Highland Main Line and the Highland Railway routes. And then, if you are a real steam nutter, you could always continue from Inverness on Vern's Far North line!

A pity that on video 5a we weren't able to stop off at the two distilleries for a couple of tasting sessions  I guess there's a limit to virtual reality.

Achtung! I'm a bit suspicious of the German lorry trailer combo at Grangemouth Docks. Geoff, if you've been really good this year Santa might bring you an AEC Monarch lorry trailer combo with tilts as a replacement, though he might not make it for the 25th! I'm trying to finish off my Metropolitan Dreadnought coaches at the moment.

Hi Martin,
Thank you for your kind words. Yes Don has done wonders with adding extra routes and industries to the Scottish Central (now renamed SCP). I look forward to the German truck replacement, although I have used these in quite a lot of places throughout the route, so replacing them all, some of them might get overlooked. There is no immediate rush, as it's going to be well into 2011 before we have finished adding all the remaining scenery. At the moment, I am just titivating some of the industrial sites up a bit more, in other words adding a bit of life to them, before I continue with the sections I am working on. Don has nearly completed the part he is working on, so we can then move on to other areas that need scenery adding. We are getting nearer and nearer to completing, but there is still a fair bit to do yet. Then we need to check the whole route to make sure that we have no floating scenery items and holes under the tracks etc, which we often come across when running parts of the route.
As far as I know, the loco building and activity makers are also working as much as they can, in time for the final push before the route can be packaged. I'll keep you all informed as to when this is likely to happen, but for now, there is still a lot to do.

I do not think there is any need to replace them as such in the AE.
Take the S and SD files of the 'New' model and rename them to the German truck. Change the Shape line in the SD file to match the S file. Keep the new Texture file name so the S file can find it. There is no need to touch the .Ref file entry.

Then copy the S and SD files into the route Shapes folder overwriting the original and the Texture file in Textures
And if the model is the one I think it is it will work in the Carspawner as well.

I changed the Dump Truck in BD1 for the Foden 8 wheeler in The Southern Region like that.

Hope this helps.

Doug's absolutely right, though renaming the files to overwrite the German lorry is something I can easily do as I complete the model. Unless, of course, you are particularly attached to the German lorry and don't want the files overwritten so that you can leave some examples of it in the route, though, IIRC, doesn't it have unrealistic "steamroller" wheels running the whole width of the body? For a dedicated rivet-counter like me, that simply won't do  Also, I can provide both a truck-trailer combo as well as a separate lorry and a separate, parked, trailer.

Hi Martin,
Leaving a few of the German Truck & Trailers in the route would suit me. So I suggest you just make up what you have suggested, so that we can have yours and the German Truck in the route. Personally, I rather like the German Truck Model so changing the shape & sd file to replace it would be best left alone. I appreciate Doug's suggestion but having your version as well Martin, would be the best option.

Cheers

Thanks for making even more videos, Geoff. There's not much more that can be said about this route - it's just brilliant. Loved the animated cranes.

Thank you Danny!

Well we have finally reached the last day of 2010 and as far as MSTS goes, it's been quite a good year as far as new routes and stock are concerned. We have had three or four new route additions uploaded and lots of new locos/stock as well as many updates to original models, which keep appearing now and again, as well as some very nice scenery items which all add to the MSTS Library.

It is jut over twelve months since Don and I started working on the SCP and although we were hoping to have it released this year, I'm sure you can see why this was not possible. Had we just worked on scenerising the unfinished Scottish Central, then a Christmas release would have probably have been the case. However, since we decided to extend this route, it has meant twice as much senery adding as the original. Plus the fact that Don has also added many industrial branches and sites, that were abundant during the period we are modelling this route on, which has made this complexity of route options so much better, giving activity creators a wealth of opportunities to use this route to the full, which is what we intended when we decided to expand on it.

Don & I have just exchanged our updates for December, and the next one will be at the end of January. The section from Dalmeny, just south of the Forth Bridge, where the branch curves away to Falkirk is all now seneried right into Glasgow Queen Street. From Dunbar in the south, scenery has reached Prestopans, which is approx three quarters of the way towards Edinburgh.
Areas still yet to do are the southern sections heading towards Glasgow Central as far as Cambuslang, which is approx eight miles on the outskirts of the city center. There are a few more areas around Falkirk High Level towards Glasgow, Haymarket towards Glasgow, Thornton Junction through Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline as far as Rosyth, plus a few other areas of the route that need finishing.
Hopefully by the end of April, 99% of the scenery will be complete, then we can concentrate on checking over the whole route, to put right any floating scenery objects and holes under the tracks etc. So a midsummer release is looking rather promising at the moment, but this is just a speculation at the present moment.

I don't know how Don feels, but I would like to work on a version 2 of this route, so that we can extend it as far north as Abrdeen and maybe Newcastle or even York in the south, so that it will be possible to run from Kings Cross to Aberdeen, thus completing the East Coast Route to Scotland, which would be great for MSTS

Anyway, that's for the future, so lets hope 2011 is as good a year as 2010 has been for MSTS

A Happy New Year to you all!

I have just got round to watching the last two videos and once again I am totally overwhelmed. Not only has the original route been extended to cover so much of eastern Scotland, but the scenery placement has been done so effectively. Thank goodness there are still some dedicated route builders working with MSTS. Geoff, Don and the other contributors, you have done and are doing a great job!

I agree. The gap between York and Edinburgh is a great omission in MSTS and I still hope that someone will fill it in. Dundee to Aberdeen would also be a real bonus.

There is also a gap between Larbert and Motherwell.

NWE3 will include Lancaster to Carlisle and pluging this gap would allow you to run from Penzance to Thurso.
And now you can also run from the south coast over the S&D.

But please make any additions as a version two so I don't have to wait too long.

If we do decide to extend the SCP any further, it will be a version 2 add on.

As I said before Geoff, you can always have this. :)

I've realised it's getting too big for me to do myself.

I'd also like to see Princess Street Station in Edinburgh added to any further extensions to your route. :)
