A Stratford 47 in charge of an express bound for Kings Cross. I'm quite partial to the white-roofed Stratford 47s, anyone know why these alone had white roofs?

Andy

Stratford depot staff painted them to look more superior to Old Oak Common loco's as iirc they had a little private competition with one another over a paint pot. It was the same with the Finsbury park Deltics they werent meant to have white windows, it was the depot staff symbol.

Incidently iirc Stratford was the first to used coloured symbols ie; Cockney Sparrow.

Some great shots there Chris - especially the last two and the pair of Britannias.
