Today is the last day of the current Northern Rail franchise as Arriva Rail North takes over tomorrow.
Here is the first ever train to be painted in Northern Rail livery back in December 2004:

London King's Cross station

Post by armchairengo »

The main part of London King's Cross station, which today includes platforms 1 to 8, was opened on 14 October 1852.
A number of famous trains have been associated with King's Cross, such as the Flying Scotsman service to Edinburgh, and the Gresley A3 and later streamlined A4 Pacific steam locomotives, which handled express services from the 1930s until the early 1960s.

A Class 101 DMU and a "Blue Train" Class 303 EMU at Springburn in late 1966.

Following the closure of Glasgow's Buchanan Street Station, services from Cumbernauld lost it's links with the city. As a result, a Cumbernauld to Springburn shuttle service was introduced, with passengers having to change with the North Clyde electric services in order to reach the city. Here, a Class 101 DMU prepares to leave for Cumbernauld after receiving it's passengers from it's connecting service from Milngavie, while unit 032 would head back to Milngavie with some of it's Cumbernauld passengers.
