The 2+5 sets will be formed PC+TF+TRSB+TS+TS+TGS+PC.
I take it PC is power car, then first, buffet, second, second, second and guard, power car? What exactly do the initials mean?
Also why are they calling it a DMU - because there's two power cars? I always thought with DMUs each car was powered.

They are DEMU's by original design,
class 252 was the prototype set
class 253 and 254 are the production sets, 253 western region, 254 eastern region.
set numbers were removed as they never stayed in the same formation for very long, I have an old pic with 2 253022 sets next to eachother

There are no major differences between '225's and '125's other than the number of coaches. Both are Class 43's, the 225 is just a way of recognising the difference between the two.Kempstem wrote:But they are not in them colours + in the rail mag this month it also showned HST with 5 coaches
225's are called challengers or something similarly stupid, are they not?

Actually, HST's are not DMU's. They are diesels, but they don't operate in multiple, althought they operate largely as units. DMU's are generally accepted to be units of powered and/or trailer coaches that can be coupled together to form longer trains driven from one cab. Therefore, the Blue Pullman (except the rebuilt six car units), and the HST which are not designed to couple together and operate as single trains cannot be seen as DMU's but Diesel Unit trains.
Pedentry, perhaps but important in a historical context.
