its a voyager with a different class and colour scheme thats all (i think!)!
But Midland Mainline is taking delivery of them in 4car and 9 car formations i think.
Thats an artistic impression of the new Colour scheme if im not mistaken. Ive seen it in rail a couple of times and dotted abotu on the net

Yes, I believe the Meridian units will have a different front end as the nose cone of Voyager is the intellectual copyright of Virgin.

By the way who came up with Meridian as the name for these units? It's contrived and won't catch on. And if we are about to start using ITV company names for trains, why not "Westwards" instead of the equally meaningless "Adelantes" or "Granadas" instead of the psuedo-Latin "Coradia"? Names will only take if they are easy and meaningful - no-one in the Midlands was fooled by Centro's attempts to call 323's "Electras" (despite it being pointed out BR had already used that name for the ECML electrics that's what they were called in early publicity) with even the public calling them 323's...

Wonder what people do call the ECML leccies now - GNER still use "225" in their literature but I'm not sure that name ever caught on - funny the name Electra was in public usage while the trains were in development as the big new thing, but then after they were introduced BR started calling them IC 225s instead. Curious.

Of course they could rename them Tyne Tees Trains or even Channel 3 North Easts :fadein: :D 8) :P

It doesn't make sense IC225 stands for 225km/h. But the HST are 125 and they stand for 125MPH. Why can't they change or to km/h(225km/h, 200km/h) or Miles Per Hour(140mph,125mph)

Simple really.

It's marketing speak.

IC140 has about as much going for it as the Perudia Nippa car. How would you pronounce it - 1-4-0 or 1-forty or one hundred and forty? None of them have that trip-off the tongue quality. However, 225 shows it's the second generation of BR High-Speed train, will hopefully confuse Joe Punter into thinking it's a TGV when actually electrification didn't drastically change journey times and trips off the tongue much more easily.

IC125 was named such because at the time we were only in the early stages of metrication and the number 1-2-5 is again a catchy phrase - 2-0-0 is a gobful and two-hundred sounds naff.

We may think all this is a load of toffee but when you see just how much research the car industry puts into naming their products it is important to remember the train is competing with the car and unfortunately that includes on branding and image.

So everyone would like an MML Class 222? If anyone can find picures, you never know... (as the front is different to the 220, the 222 will be a new model, not a repaint of Buffy500's 220, if it's built ;) ).

but aren't both 125s and 225s actually 125s?

that's all down to railtrack, i guess.

why don't Virgin, instead of nicking the italian name, call their pendolinos IC325s? I know they can't do 325 anythings, except perhaps furlongs per fortnight, but it'd make a nice progression in british intercity trains! Like the bullet trains, you have series 0,100,200,300 and 400 i think. they can't actually go at 400, though. i think all of them have gone between 200 and 300 km/h.

anyway, i'd like to see an IC325 and 425...

and once they've gone past 925 they can do something else.

Pendalino simply means tilting train (if im correct) so its not really that glamourous!!!
Also the 175 and 180's are both Coradia's (Coradia Series 1000 i think) which means Intercity (been fishing around on alstom's webby :) )

Although i must admit that i find those names quite catchy!
I only refer to the 175's by their class. The others by their names :) Not quite sure wot and were adalante comes from/means?!
Ah well ive had my spurt of usless info for today :D
