Old and new at Newbury Station

Post by timbooth »

Here's a few screenshots of the progress of Newbury Station on my DN&S route, showing the detailed station buildings on the up platform. To be added to this platform is the canopy, and footbridge that spans all 4 lines.

Here's an early photo of the prototype for comparison...

Very nice indeed. Footbridge looks as if it might give you some fun.

I'm hoping to release a beta version late October - just Newbury to Didcot - which will be track, platforms, and a few buildings to give an idea of what to expect from the full release.

Brings a new dimension to monster truck shows, eh?

Seriously, Tim, that building is excellent. Have you hand drawn the brick textures or used photos from somewhere?

I felt its about time buildings got the same attention to detail as loco's, though only the buildings near to the track will get this detail - the fps suffers a little.

The textures are 100% hand-drawn. I could use photo's of the real thing as I only live about half a mile away, but I'm not sure the detail of photos would show up very well, so it may not be worth the effort. The other problem is that the building has been modified in places, and its difficult to know whats original - its also very weathered, and painted in NSE/Thames Trains colours. However, I may use part-photographic textures for the final version - I don't want to get bogged down in too much detail at this stage.

Hand drawn eh? Nice job.

Don't think the line will be terribly profitable - doesn't look like too dense a passenger catchment area in that 2nd pic.

Brilliant, that station building! Congratulations!

I only think that the pavement looks in far too good a condition, if you know what I mean :o

Yes, rather bare landscape at the moment but this will soon change - and some interesting landmarks to come. The pavements have been lovingly looked after, as stations used to be ;)

Incidentally, the DN&S line wasnt profitable, much of the line ran sparsely populated areas - which makes modelling a bit easier :)

Great building Tim, very close to the original pic, and love that station announcement from Eddie.

I wish you people would stop bringing out these superb routes! I just cannot avoid getting a new larger Hard Disc soon to fit them all on. :D

Cheers
