Very pretty - takes me back to my spotting days at the Cross in the 1950's.

My railway photos are now on Google + - links to the albums are in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 9&t=149558
Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

Nice screenshots, but even back in steam day's, you would never have seen such a line up of A4s at Kings Cross.alanch wrote:Very pretty - takes me back to my spotting days at the Cross in the 1950's.
At least MSTS makes anything possible.

Re: Time for a bit of glamour.
More likely they'd be lined up at Top Shed.
I believe all 35 were based there.
I believe all 35 were based there.

Re: Time for a bit of glamour.
There was originally 35 A4s, 4469 was destroyed in an air-raid at York during WW2 although the tender survived.prairie4566 wrote:More likely they'd be lined up at Top Shed.

In BR ECML service they were allocated to "Top shed" and "Haymarket" to work the crack Anglo - Scottish expresses.
Towards the end of their service the remaining few spent their last days on the 3 hour Glasgow - Aberdeen expresses.

Re: Time for a bit of glamour.
No and no - very unusual to see a line up of A4's like that at Top Shed, and they certainly weren't all based there. From memory they were split between King's Cross, Gateshead and Haymarket (Edinburgh) until the diesels replaced them. And there were only 34 in BR days - one was destroyed in the bombing of York shed - unless you include the solitary W1.
The arrival line up in King's Cross station would probably include at least one A1 and A3, as well as A4's, with a pretty good chance of a V2, B1 or Britannia at the right time of day.
EDIT Beat me to the draw Chris.

Out of interest I read that "SNG" has had no less than 10 new boilers throughout it's life.

What was the name of the A4 that was bombed during the war?

So if anyone says they saw this loco during the fifties, they would be telling Porky's.chrisiveson wrote:"Sir Ralph Wedgwood"steamnut44 wrote:What was the name of the A4 that was bombed during the war?
Chris.![]()
In fact the A4 Sir Ralph Wedgwood shown in the last screenshot above is fictional, as it is in BR Green.
A4s were not painted in this colour until 1948 at the earliest.

Re: Time for a bit of glamour.
Not fictional at all....another A4 (60006?) was renamed Sir Ralph Wedgewood to replace the bombed example.
