The long way round... 1&2!

Post by jamiebowey87 »

Another activity Ive been working, planned for release soon, the 14:27 Waterloo - Weybridge via Staines. Due to engineering works between Clapham and Richmond, the train has been diverted via Wimbledon and Kingston, as happened to myself when i travelled to twickenham a few weeks ago;

As the front 4 coaches prepare to leave, a newly refurbished Class 455 arrives...

Its January 2005, and our 4-Vep is one of the last surviving slammers running with SWT. 450 Desiros are entering squadron service, and half the 455 fleet has been refurbished...

Now on the Down Fast we pass a Southern 455 and 456 as we approach Clapham Junction...

At New Malden were checked to allow a pair of old-liveried 455s to clear the line...

The aspect changes to green, the feather indicating the points are set to the Kingston Loop as a pair of 455s join the mainlines on their way from Shepperton...

Usually the domain of suburban stock, our 4-Vep rests in unfamiliar territory at Kingston...

We pass the Richmond - Kingston shuttle at speed...

We arrive into Twickenham, the journey from Waterloo having lasted just under 30 minutes. A pair of Class 450s depart for Waterloo from Reading, the driver having changed ends due to the reversal needed to access the Kingston loop...

We depart on time at 14:57 having had four minutes to change ends. A pair of Class 455s have been diagrammed to form an hourly shuttle to Brentford via Hounslow, connecting with London/Reading trains at Twickenham...

We pass an EWS Class 66 on its way to the engineering possession from Banbury Yard...

We pass dormant units stabled in Staines Carriage Sidings...

We clatter accross Staines East Junction...

At Virginia Water we turn off the Reading Mainline onto the Weybridge branch...

We cross over the M25 on the very distinctive bridge near Addlestone. The winter fog is still lingering at half past three...

We arrive uncerimonioulsy at our destination, having taken just over an hour to cover our tortuous route accross South-West London to a destination only 19 Miles from Waterloo!

Its part of a pack im working on to follow up my SWT Slammer Act pack. Theres a couple non-Slammer runs, and a patch to update all my older acts to start/finnish at destinations now included in DC5 where applicable! Having had a long break from MSTS, I must admit Im so impressed with DC5, and the parts of DC4 Ive not got round to driving, such as Weybridge-Virginia Water line and Kingston Loops!

Merry Xmas all & a Happy New Year!

Another Saturday, more engineering works affecting the SWML. Today theyre digging up St Denny's - Worting Junction. Weymouth/Wareham trains are being diverted to run via the Portsmouth line, calling at Fareham, Woking and Clapham only. An all stations Poole - Southampton shuttle is connecting with the diverted trains at Southampton. The Basingstok semi-fasts and Salisbury trains are unaffected.

Here we join one of the diverted Weymouth trians at Southampton, booked to depart at 13:15. A class 150 is stabled in the platforms as a 8-Cig prepares to head back to Poole, all stations...

We pass the waterside between Northam Depot and St Denny's. Were barely able to get up speed before were slowing down for the 20mph restriction over the points...

Crossing the lvel crossing east of St Denny's...

Our 10-coach train sweeps round the corner. The gradient is rising as we round the Solent...

We continue to follow the line of the estury, having climbed steadily since St Denny's Junction. In the background Southampton FC's St Mary's stadium can be seen, not far from Northam depot. its taken 10 minutes to get this far from Central!

More boats can be seen as we sail past...

A 20mph TSR means we have to cautiosly make our way over the bridge...

Were back up to speed now as we cross another river...

We clatter over the pointwork of Fareham Junction as we prepare to make our first station stop...

Another 10-Car 442 bound for Wareham rests in the platform next to us at Fareham. A generous schedule has meant both services have arrived a couple of minutes early...

We pass a SWT 170, on its way from Brighton to Eastleigh. Passengers making their way on to Basingstoke and Reading will be bussed up the M3!

A big difference in train length as we pass a 2-Car 158 DMU en-route to Cardiff Central as we approach Cosham...

More to follow later on the run up to Waterloo. A short visit to hospital meant Ive had to stop work on the project, but Ive been ordered a week of taking it easy, so now have the opportunity to get it all done! All the acts featured on the Portsmouth/Alton lines will be DC5 only, but the 14:27 Waterloo-Weybridge shown above is all on DC4!

And the run up the Portsmouth Direct line to Waterloo...

Slowing down through Coasham station...

We pass through Havant, about to head north towards Woking...

We speed through petersfield as a down stopper to Portsmouth makes its call...

Having caught the up stopper up at Haselmere, we're checked briefly between the two tunnels south of Guildford...

We accelerate through Guildford as a host of 455s await to form services back to Waterloo and West Croydon...

We arrive a minute ahead of time at Clapham Junction following a gutsy sprint from Woking. The station is as busy as ever!

At Battasea Park we pass underneath the Victoria line as a 455 and 460 head for Victoria nad Gatwick...

We arrive at our destination 3 minutes early, a small consolation for the passengers who have sat the whole 1hr55mins from Southampton!

Erm, how about 'Excellent!' for a start, 'Looks awesome!' for seconds and a nice 'Really can't wait for this pack!' to finish up with! 8) As for suggestions: "More, please!" :P :D They look top quality

Your timing is super-convenient too, since it was just yesterday I was looking for more Dorset Coast slammer activities. There just aren't enough! :D

Thanks for this preview - much appreciated! Kind regards

Hello Everyone,

Those activities look great but, upon departure from Southampton Central the stopping pattern is Fareham, Havant Guildford, Woking, Clapham Junction and Waterloo. I know this cos I do the on board catering.

Regards, Doug
