They had them in goods yards to stop people placing over-size loads on wagons. You can still see them in a few places. I don't know who placed the one at Afon Wen, whether it was the LMS or GWR. The siding was only used to transfer goods between companies, so my guess is that the LMS didn't trust the GWR. :)

Nice Screenies. Looks a really nice route.

It was this time a week ago tomorrow that I was traveling on the Cambrian. Quiet a Journey.

Got on at Shrewsbury. Got to Machynelleth (sorry welsh spelling is bad) 1st half went to Abrystwyth but we never go. Arriva guy comes on an tells us we broke down. Got a new 158 in 15 mins which is good.

Then ATW made no effort watsover to regain time. I mean the guard was talking to passer buys at one station and telling the drive to wait! We were 30 late by Barmouth and lost our path so another 25 mins there. Me and me Dad left ourselfs 45 mins for the connection onto the Ffestiog at Porthmadog....still ATW cant make it. Still we changed at Minddford and got the Ffestiog.

Sorry, i'm hijacking your thread to moan at ATW.

Cheers
