Hi Martin,

Just wondering if there is any chance of doing a Dukedog in BR Green as according to my 1959 Locomotives & Loco Shed book there were still 6 in service then.

The loco's were 9004/5/14/15/17/18, they were based at 84J ,9004/9014/9018, at 89A 9005, 89C 9015 9017.

84J = Croes Newydd (Bala) 89A = Oswestry sub sheds Llanidloes, Moat Lane. 89C Machynlleth sub sheds at Aberystwyth, Pwlheli and Portmadoc.

I'm realy looking forward to this route especialy going over Barmouth Bridge.

Sorry Martin for asking but I hadn't noticed the Black Dukdog before. I must say all the loco's look first class in the screen shots and the scenery.

Although as I mentioned earlier that I was aprahensive about buying from the States, I definatly will take the plunge and buy this one, it should be ok if I use my Master Card, and the Company looks like it's been going for some time now.

No Dukedogs went Br green- didn't last long enough although they lasted long enough tot he BR green era they were an antiquated design and theri day were numbered then and they stayed BR black, and were replaced in the late 50s by Ivatt/ Standard 2MT 2-6-0s and BR 3MT 2-6-2ts.

According to my book they were introduced by Collet 1936 and were a rebuild incorperating the Duke class boiler, and the Bulldog frames, they were for light lines primary.

Michael

You are correct - when first introduced they were given 'Earl' names, but some of the aristocracy weren't too happy to see their titles on such small and antiquated engines. The names were quickly removed to appear on Castle 4-6-0s.

Alan

Please have a look at my railway photograph site - http://alan-lewis-chambers.fotopic.net/ - lots of British steam and early diesels

Hi All

Being an avid GWR fan I thought I would advise the following:-

The Dukedog (90xx Class) was introduced in 1936 by C.B.Collett with a 3,500 galllons capacity tender predominately for Light Passenger use on the Cambrian Lines.

They were a rebuild incorporating the frames of the older "Bulldog" (33xx class) and the "Duke" (3252 class) type boiler.

29 engines were rebuilt with parallel domed boilers - At first these were named after "Earls" with 11 of the older "Dukes" remaining in service in 1946 and renumbered into the 9000 series but these were all scrapped (I think prior to 1950 but I am not sure :o ) as the War prevented them being rebuilt into "Earls" ie "Dukedogs"

Regards

Mike

PS I have both types on my "00" GWR model railway!!

Regards

Mike
