Nice work jon :D
Your right about teaching the youngsters about real traction !
although I was only 3 when Warships were withdrawn form the mainline.
but ive had plenty of mileage behind the preseved pair :D
I like the last pic nice sound with all the engines running.

Yes I never got any Mainline Warship haulage........well I have vague memories of travelling to Torquay in 1966, aged 4.
Nearly sure that was a 47 though as I remember watching the purple tint on the windows as it came into the platform.
First one I definitely saw was a dilapidated 832 outside Derby Research 1974.
I think you have to be around fifty to have caught them in action.
Cheers

Yes, great shots Jon! :P

My first memories of these venerable beasts was travelling back to Birmingham after a family day trip to London. Year was around 1965 (I would have been eight) - no idea what was hauling our service to New Street (or was it the old Snow Hill?) but I vividly recall us being rapidly overtaken shortly after departure by D816 Eclipse, on full acceleration out of Paddington - that unique sound will stay with me forever...

I still have my old Ian Allen locospotting book showing about half of the Warship fleet spotted!

First, and so far only, experience of a Warship was D832 on the ELR in 2005. Of course, that pales into insignificance against the experiences of others in the mainline days, but it's the best I'm likely to get. I was very impressed by the din in the tunnel - only wish I could travel behind one at mainline speeds though... :(

Great shots again there Jon. :)

Cheers

A Dawlish holiday in 1967 and a trip to Lands End by car during that holiday gave my brother, sister and myself the chance to persuade our parents that we should return by train to Dawlish. We were successful in our plea and yours truly was able to sample a Warship from Penzance to at least Plymouth. 814 'Dragon' freshly turned out in blue did the honours. Later in the week we took a trip to Exeter and again we were able to travel back to Dawlish by train and again we were Warship hauled. 814 'Dragon' again doing the honours which was a bit of a blow really as that was the extent of my Warship wanderings. I still vividly remember them from the late 60's as Dawlish Warren was our usual holiday destination and I can still hear 870 'Zest' and 869 'Zulu' both in maroon with full yellow ends storming away from Dawlish and my brother and me stopped playing football to await the arrival of this incredible sound at Dawlish Warren as the twins headed for the capital. Wonderful machines which were just awesome when thrashed!

I think D818 was blue and also green at Swindon. It would have been the preserved D821 in maroon.

Looks smashing Jon, the photoreal fronts do a heck of a lot for the model.

Don't fancy adding a Maroon Full Yellows D832 onto the list do ya? :P
