Unloaders are set to operate in both directions on some PS's ironbridge iirc is one, and thats a twin track.

Grafham PS track work is designed for access from the up or down direction and similarly you may exit in either direction. Entrance from the up line is quite tricky with a heavy coal train as there is a fairly steep incline with speed restrictions, so you can't just take a good run at it.

Circulation round the merrygoround is designed for clockwise movements so that long coal trains will not block the exits from the sidings while unloading. Trains may enter the sidings directly without going round the loop.
