I've down loaded the route, I reckon my cousins husband could be driving that train. He started on New Zealand Railways as a fireman on steam loco's on South Island.

He the went Upper Hutt and drove diesels, now he's driving emu's on the Wellington Area Suburban trains, although he's kept his diesel driving licence up to date.

Bye the way all passenger trains between Wellington and Auckland have now finished, to wards the end the Overlander some days was down to three passengers travelling on it.

Flying between two cities is now the norm.

Just a quick note, Toll Rail had a change of heart. The Overlander was saved and runs on a 7-day timetable from December-March/April and a 3-day timetable over the remaining months.

As a result of all the attention it got on the local TV/Radio the trains are now very near capacity and they have even seen a lick of new paint all cars being re-painted in a light blue with OVERLANDER branding on them. They also saw the interiors re-done so they are looking much nicer now. Even had bad areas of rust cut out and repaired from the external shell. Now all that's needed is for ONTRACK (The government agency that owns the track) to finish repairing the NIMT and the Overlander would be able to proivde some very healthy competition for all those buses..... (of course, they'd probably need more passenger cars to do that, and new cars seems very low priority, still waiting on our new locomotives they promised us years back, haven't even been ordered as yet.)
