looking good Carl, just downloaded. Will test in a mo. Oh, btw I believe you're mile long train is known as the HOBC (High output ballast cleaner) not auto ballaster. Auto Ballasters a TOPS code HQA and look like:

maybe a future project???

Ah yes, I knew it wasn't autoballaster, couldn't think of the name though. Its a similar idea though and it's too much hassle to change everything!ewsjo wrote:looking good Carl, just downloaded. I didnt build the ballast cleaner unit which sits on the back.trains2 wrote:Ah yes, I knew it wasn't autoballaster, couldn't think of the name though. I built the two types of wagon i saw in a rake at Eastleigh,
with no cleaner unit does it make it a rake of auto ballasters?
It confused all of us
Thanks for the comment
Kind regards
Matt

No autoballasters do a different job altogether. What you have modelled are the ballast wagons for the HOBC, which carry both new and used ballast (separate wagons) and use the conveyor to cary it to the HOBC unit. The top picture shows your type of wagons behing a 66 and an HOBC unit http://www.tauntontrains.co.uk/NEWS-INFO.htm
The High Output Ballast Train units sit inteh middle of two rakes of wagons, and cut the ballast out with teh track in place, and putting new ballast in its place.
Regards the autoballasters, they are used at line replacemnts or other new laying jobs IIRC

Oh, btw, the JNAs are fab, can't wait for the other wagons. Especially like the Rotating axle ends, however (minor gripe), they seem a little heavy? A 66 struggled on 15 of them(loaded). and I won't even mention the pair of 37s, but then that was just silly!!!!....

Funny you should mention that, as I was having a discussion about this with Matt Spencer a few days ago, he said they were too light - which they were. According to the data panel, they are 64t empty. This was far too heavy and my 66 struggled. I cut the weights in half, so 32t for empty, and made the loaded 64t, and to me it seemed more realistic.ewsjo wrote:Oh, btw, the JNAs are fab, can't wait for the other wagons. If you think about it, you don't often see a 66 pull away with a well loaded train, usually takes a bit of oomph to get it moving!

You got it wrong.
The wagons are 100ton GLW (gross laden weight.)
The tare on the data panel is the unloaded weigh.
64t is the carrying capacity.
The two figures should always add up to the GLW.
I have made the emptys 26T but the load does not completely fill the wagon so I have made the loaded versions 85T.

Well if the wagons are accurate you'll just need to get the loco physics right.trains2 wrote:I was hoping you would post Ian.
I'll bare that information in mind for future projects, but the figures you have stated I don't think are going to make a significant difference, if anything the increase in the loaded weight will make it harder to pull a loaded train.
For the average possession you would probably only be able to do enouth work to load or unload about 15 wagons.
Perhaps someone will come along with some load tables - mine are out of date.

The JNA is very nice but with all that detail it is over 3600 polys.
So I made my own. It's got 172 polys.

Actually, I was working on some low poly wagons and decided to try making a low poly version of the ER wagon.
It is very simple but ideal for static use in sidings in order to keep frame rates high.
