Yeah, great effect Chris. I normally think these effects look pretty naff but you've really caught that well.

He's blurred all of the image bar the focus (Mallard's body).

The trick is to consider what elements of the screenshot are moving if you were panning with train. These are the things that would be blurred on a panned photographic picture.

The train itself would be static, as would the smoke surprisingly enough (although it may be moving at a much lower speed compared to the train). The wheels would be rotating at speed and the scenery would be passing by very fast as well.

You therefore blur everything apart from the locomotive body, carriages and the solid parts of the exhaust smoke/steam.

...now if we could just pesuade him to make a couple of normal guage locos for every half dozen narrow guage ones

For those who may not have dabbled in NG yet just follow the links above ad click on "more by this author" The rate that Kevins getting through them he'll have created every UK NG loco soon and will have to set of round the world.....

In the unlikely event you do get bored with NG Kevin how about an N2, N7 or some Fowler, Stanier (2&3 cylinder) and Fairburn 2-6-4Ts. All of which served the less glamourous routes in the pre diesel/electrification days.

BTW Mike love the Nebraska shots. downloaded them when I saw them but haven't had a chance to install and run them yet. The Steam scene t'other side of the pond seems to have a dedicated but much smaller (?) following than over here. Perhaps because you'd have to be between 60 and 70 at the youngest to remember them in use. You'd have to be 47 to remember them here in the UK. Time flys when you're having fun .

I do that on some of my shots using PSP8. The first time was with this shot:
