Well, the one that inspired these shots was 1960s York Inverness. (note the lettering on the car transporter). Now i'm working from memory, (over fourty years ago), the cars were loaded at Queen Street, (where the old station was accessed through the city walls), and I'm pretty sure the rest of the train was bearthed in platform 10. at York.

There was also a Holloway - Edinburgh servoce in the sixties and it was often Deltic powered.

I'm sure it was this train I travelled on to Kingussie, as far as Edinburgh.
It was 1961 and I was with a school pal and his parents. His dad worked for BR in York and probably got the tickets cheap, (or free) although we didn't get sleepers. ':('
I remember walking to some lodging house in Edinburgh (some relatives or something), lugging a heavy suitcase and then catching a morning Inverness train for the weeks stay in the camping coach at Kingussie.(happy days) :D

Impossible to reproduce the arrival at York. :(

The motorail sidings would have been to the right of the train (where the roadway is.)
York had 16 platforms then, the train is at what was plat. 3. To the right was 2 & 1. The old railway museum was to the right of the picture before it moved to the NRM in Leeman Rd.
And the tower blocks were never there and never will be. :D
