West Highland Line

Post by jonathanmlewis »

Below are a few screen shots of a little route I have been working on recently. Not much scenery in place yet but track in place from Arrochar to Gorton passing siding...

As I understand it the route done is some kind of commercial thing and only goes to Crianlarich (and goes to Mallaig) but this is planned to go all the way to Helensburgh Upper...

and this also uses DEMed Terrain and Distant Mountains (and I'm no sure any UK route uses the lator)...

I think the main advantage will be the DEMed terrain & the distant mountains. The West Highland Line is the perfect line to take advantage of this, Vern's route doesn't include this (I am in no way putting down your work Vern, I've had so many happy hours thrashing 37s up the Highlands!).

The route shown is a work in progress, and I like the fact it uses UKFS (no offence Vern), and I think that the default track is horrid, and spoils Verns route abit :(

And are you planning to release it on UKTS, as it would go nicely along side Highland Mainline & Scottish Central :P

Cheers...

Well I started building it as a test rotue for UKFS and seems to keep getting longer  . My aim is to get to Fort William from around Helensburgh and once I have enough scenery in place I do hope to upload it here...

As Helensburgh-Glasgow is boring  In-fact I did place markers until Cardross but having a half electric route will be stupid (as MSTS does not really support it) so Helensburgh will probably be the southern end...

I would think Dumbarton would be the best place to start the route.

This would give interchange with the local sevices and also some sidings to start goods trains.

You could simply model the electric masts and gantries and set the wires a mile high.

There was never much at Helensburgh or Craigandoran.

Why would it be Boring it was solid 303 diagram before the 320's apeared and Helenburgh is the lines terminus anyway Lower being a 5 minute walk from Upper.

Both the Talyllyn V2 and the Ffestiniog route both utilise distant mountains.

Best bit is easily the climb out of Queen Street (high level) tunnel. Last done by myself on a proper train in 1993 with 37106.

Done countless times more in plastic units but that counts for nowt in my world
