Nice shots Jon - I thought I had all the NSWGR routes, but I don't recognize the scenes in those screenshots - what is the route, and where can it be found?

BTW, Paul just beat me to releasing his 46 class - I've got a pack of 5 off 46's currently sitting with Peter Newell waiting to be uploaded to the CTN website - 1 in clean livery, 2 in lightly weathered, 1 moderately weathered, 1 heavily weathered, all in the original livery as commissioned.

Murphy's Law says you wait for 4 years for a 46, then two different authors release them days apart!!!!

That was a quick reply, Jon

Come to think of it, yes, I do see the scenery is the Blue Mountains route, it just didn't look like it at first.

Although I am an Aussie, my main love is the LMS (with many happy hours working with Dave Corfield on Thames-Mersey, as well as running many other MR/LMS routes ), but my secondary love is the NSWGR, as I grew up in the 50's and 60's with NSW steam in my blood (my late father's last surviving brother, is an ex-NSWGR top-link driver - often drove 3801, and a lot of other NSW locos).

At present there are several NSW routes -

The 'Blue Mountains' route (I believe this was going to be updated by some people from the Nazarail group, but the project is cancelled due to other commitments)

Then there is the 'Illawarra' route from Nowra to Kiama (found on the steam4me website - http://steam4me.railpage.org.au/trainsi ... index.html )

And the 'Coals to Newcastle' (CTN) route from Strathfield to Newcastle - http://www.railpage.org.au/coalstonewcastle/index.php

There are a couple of other NSW routes being worked on at the moment - one that should be released soon, is the 'Central West' from Orange to Dubbo, and another one based on the Main South down towards Albury (no release date offered yet).

I am heavily involved with Peter Newell on the CTN route, we are currently working on V5 expanding the route from Waratah to Maitland in the North, and from Strathfield to Sydney Central in the South - this will be available in another couple of months, as there is a lot of custom scenery work needed over these new areas.

I've built hundreds of custom scenery objects for CTN so far, and have built a great deal of NSW rolling stock (can be found on the CTN website under Downloads). My new 46 Class are my first attempt at making locomotives from scratch (not yet skilled enough to try a steam loco). Once I get the CTN V5 out of the way, I'll be doing a bit more NSW passenger and goods rolling stock (and maybe another loco or two).

Hope you enjoy running some of the trains and routes from 'down under'

Sorry for nit-picking, but strictly speaking the locos were constructed by Metropolitan Vickers - Beyer Peacock Ltd, a joint venture of the two companies. A new works was constructed at Bowesfield, Stockton-on-Tees in the early '50s with BP supplying the non-electrical components and expertise that Metro-Vick didn't have in-house. But even then the bogie castings were made in the USofA, the late delivery of which delayed the completion of these handsome beasts.

This wasn't the only joint activity of Metro-Vick and BP: some of the BR electric locos were built at by BP at their Gorton works with Metro-Vick innards. But I prefer some earlier products of Beyer Peacock: a certain pair of aristocratic 2'6" steamers on a line in Wales, twinned with the Puffing Billy ;)

That said I also have a secret liking for early electrics such as these and the Swiss, Austrian and Italian examples. And the route likes a proper railway, designed for shifting the heavy mineral trains that made the real money. Both the route and the locos look excellent!

Hi
You'll have to "Nit-pick" with the author then........as I just copied the first few lines from his readme.
But yes I too love these early locos best. :P

And I too was quoting, so it's possible that one or other - or even both - of us have it wrong or right! I was using the history of BP: Beyer Peacock- Locomotive Builders to the World. Well worth a look at ..

I have several bound sets of The Locomotive from the early 1900s and some of the interwar ones. The articles and illustrations on early electrics take one back to a different age of electrical engineering: slate cabinets, mercury switches, heavy riveted bodies and mechanical transmission and all in drab green or rust red. None of this modern whirry stuf in welded boxes with flashy go-faster stripes!
