Tuscany lines new release

Post by ebensoussan »

For trainsimmers who are found of (old) steam engines, an excellent route has jus been released : Renzo Grassi’s Tuscany lines (for more details concerning the installation see the following thread in the MSTS for Europe section : http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?t=43510 )

This route is located, as shows its name, in central Italy and both the layout and the scenery take place in the 1890/1910 years (but you could use it with more recent italian steam engines)

The author, Renzo Grassi, particulary excelled in realizing realistic sceneries and renowned landmarks like the Pise tower, Florence’s Duomo and so forth…

Here is a set of shots depincting some characteristic places with first of all, Florence with its main station (Santa Maria Novella)

At the western opposite of the route is Livorno, with its old city closed by walls and crossed by several canals. The city benefits from a large and busy harbour

And now there is Pisa, heart of this TS layout with ist famous landmarks (notice that JBilton realized a very fine close-up of the Leaning Tower in the topic related above)

Without forgetting Sienna, perched up on its hills

And at last the famous Porretta trail which joins the Tuscany to the north through the Appennines mountains. At this time, the severe gradients required 2 or 3 engines for hauling and pushing the trains.

Just stunning - I love mountainous railways that require real work from steam locos. Also a good opportunity to test foreign locos to see how well they stand up - I'm the sor tof guy who likes to take a SNCF de Caso Baltic over Aisgill with 12 MkIIs!
