Not Thomas - *** huge pic ***

Post by decapod »

8000 polygons - I don't think it looks much more detailed than my earlier 4000 poly models - and this is no where near finished yet.

It needs a big pic to see the detail.

Looks good. :)

Planning a BR version? I'm not sure if there were any major differences?

Not a huge number of photos of E2s around, but I think there are some detail changes for BR - whistle, safety valves, and those things in front of the tank fillers for instance.

One photo I did find was a rare appearance at the head of a passenger train.

Not a numerous class - only 5 with those extended tanks, and the early batch of 5 with short tanks.

http://www.southernrailway.net
has 7 photos, 6 are BR
As Ian says, not too many differences.

I'm not sure I'm going to allow a Thomas repaint - Thomas is an entirely different loco.

Not he's not! Thomas was directly based on these engines. I know Thomas repaints arn't to everyone's taste but it must be remembered that, as he brings in the fast majority of young enthusiasts, the survival of our hobby does depend on him. If a Thomas repaint creates a new trainsimmer I'd say that's a very good thing!

Is it not a bit ungracious to want to repaint this into TTTE? Not only do we already have 3 models of it (2 for MSTS, 1 for Trainz) but also would you not consider it out of order, when halfway through your project someone asked to do something to your model which you didn't want? (this coming from someone who has made TTTE reskins before!)

Let's just leave the re-skins to screenshots and not uploads, eh?

Edit:

True - the TV series loco has been gradually changed over the years and doesn't look much like the engine it was based on.

Thought Thomas was based on Awdrys model of an E2,which at that time, probably woudlnt be up to the modern standards of modelling.
