Meet the Claughton Family!

Post by eddief »

Some of you will remember this idea for when the Sentinel Shunters were done and because it worked well I thought I'd do it again for the Claughtons :). As they are nearly upon us (just waiting for all clear from the Beta Testers I thought I'd give everyone a chance to see which locos are coming.

First of all here are the London and North Western Railway versions that will be appearing :)

<IMG width="755" height="449" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php/22622/2222 Sir Gilbert Claughton.JPG">

Above Where better to start then the class pioneer? :) 2222 Sir Gilbert Claughton (LNWR chariman at the time of the class introduction and where the class nickname came from) only the 1st batch where lined out in LNWR days so this is the only planned release that will be lined out and as a result will have the shiny finish :)

<IMG width="837" height="357" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php/22622/1097 Private W Wood VC.JPG">

Above This is 1 of the 4 locos that will make up the World War 1 memorial Pack dedicated to the men who fought for their countries in all conflicts. The LNWR was the only railway who's staff were awarded the VC in the 1st World War so it honered these men with locos named after them. This is Private W. Wood VC

<IMG width="830" height="476" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php/22622/1407 Lance Corporal J A Christie VC.JPG">

Above Next in the war memorial pack is Lance Corporal J A Christie VC sadly these locos were painted plain black (surely the LNWR could have lined them out for these men)

<IMG width="941" height="435" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php/22622/1914 Patriot.JPG">

Above Here is the main loco of the WW! pack, Patriot dedicated to the Fallen LNWR Employees 1914-1919. A sombre loco but surely a worthy memorial to the unfortunate men

<IMG width="948" height="426" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php/22622/2035 Private E Sykes VC.JPG">

Above Finally we have Private E Sykes (no not Eric the comedian) again part of the WW1 pack and this loco makes up the Quartet

Now we move onto the LMS fleet

<IMG width="791" height="453" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php/22622/5910 J A Bright.JPG">

Above During the transition from LNWR to LMS some interesting variations came along with liveries, on this loco No: 5910 J A Bright the loco still carries LNWR Black with the tender carrying faded lining and there is evidence of an old number on the tender with the LMS transfers over the top (did a sudden tender swap occur?)

<IMG width="885" height="424" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php/22622/5934.JPG">

Above Where's those cleaners when you need them? :P someones let poor 5934 get in a right old state here

<IMG width="832" height="501" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php/22622/5971 Croxeth.JPG">

Above In stark contrast to 5934, 5971 is spotless. This was the first LNWR loco to be painted in LMS colours hence the reason it is also shiny.

<IMG width="930" height="421" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php/22622/6023 Sir Charles Cust.JPG">

Above As with 5910 6023 received its LMS number on its LNWR livery, however it had the number placed on the tender and the LMS crest on the cab (could this be where 5910's tender came from?)

These locos are definantly going to appear, I'm trying to decide if I should do 1 more LMS loco in normal paint finish but no shiny effect. What do people think? :)

Very nice. All we need now is an arc-roofed Corridor set of coaches in plum and spilt milk. A high-gloss blackberry black Claughton and LNWR arc roofers in LNWR livery would look superb.

I assume the plain black livery was chosen a sign of mourning? I expect though they would have been gloss black?

Shame the locos were a relative failure and didn't last long in LMS ownership

Well I have the drawings to build some LNWR coaches, all I need is to tackle them (I've not built coaches before so don't hold your breath, I might need help with texturing to get the LNWR shades right)

That is a good point I'd never thought of it that way. I'm not sure whether they were gloss or matt finish, its a bit difficult to tell on some old pics (either way I'm sure they would have appeared a bit duller after a while in service). There is a rumour that the numberplates for Patriot were originally 66 or something like that (whatever it was it was the British soldiers nickname for "house of pleasure" so the plates were binned and the number 1914 choosen) and that 1 member of the class was planned to be 1918 Victory so I might just deo that 1 as well (even if it is fictional) :)

Well they seem to be a decent enough loco in MSTS so they won't be scrapped just yet.

Probably when I was in the middle of uploading as 2222 went up first :). Hopefully they will be on here soon :D
Just as a quick update, 1 of the pics is now out of date as I found a pic of Patriot and the nameplate was wrong so I've updated it now for the memorial pack :).

Well here is updates to 2 models.

<IMG width="803" height="395" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php/22622/1914 Patriot-V2.JPG">

Above Patriot V2 with altered nameplate to put the word Patriot above the wheel splasher and the shape more suited to the shape of the real (found a photo of it and realised mine was all wrong)

<IMG width="812" height="540" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php ... 934-V2.JPG">

Above jimmyladd has being up to his tricks again. He stole 5934 from the sheds and took it on the grubbiest filthiest loaded open wagon train (each wagon full of dusty, grime and dirt) he could find and slogged the poor thing to death, he even jammed the safety valves open. Too add insult to injury he returned it to us without polishing any of it bar the area round the number. This is the results of his crime :o (only kidding Jim, fantastic job)

If so, why not do a fictional version in BR livery?

Well there is a couple of near BR liveried examples in the list. LNWR lined black is the livery BR mixed traffic lined black is based on and plain black is plain black 8), so bar the cabside numberplate you could pretend they are BR ;)
