Meet the Sentinel Family!

Post by eddief »

Well it’s been a long while (over a year in fact) but the Sentinel Shunter is at last nearing completion. Here is a collection of photos showing the 10 Shunter’s to be released (more could be added to this list if I get any requests).

(Above) This is the Sentinel been done for the YCR route as no: 81 was allocated to Pickering to rescue the Sentinel Railcar (don’t know how often that occurred).

(Above) This is my personal favourite, 148 in LNER Lined Black (yes it did happen, I have a photo to prove it, not sure how many carried this livery).

(Above) An unusual style of lettering, putting the e in brackets on the cab side. Also not the spark arrestor fitted to the chimney

(Above) 1 from the war! 8175 carrying wartime lettering and numbering style

(Above) The classic style of lettering as carried by the sentinels, with lettering and numbering on the bunker.

(Above) the above 2 locos are the same the only difference been the number (68151 is a special request from Dave Forrest :))

(Above) how the sentinels appeared toward the end of their days, BR later crest and some carried BR style numberplate on the cab front.

<IMG width="659" height="521" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php/22622/Dept 39.JPG">

(Above) Departmental 39 with its extended bunker present.

<IMG width="558" height="419" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php/22622/Dept 54.JPG">

(Above) Too round off the collection, here is the sentinel that started it all, the now preserved Departmental 54.

There is still 1 or 2 tweaks to carry out, but the majority of them are complete so I’ll get on with finishing them off and get them upload soon (hopefully over the weekend)

Looking veeerrrrry good. So I have a definite "date" with my computer this weekend? I have the crew and an activity all ready to upload. Just one comment, that lion needs to look where he is going not where he has come from! Keep up the good work.

Incidentally, I was just looking at some details and it seems that the BR LMS Sentinels were the same as the unlined black BR LNER ones (nos. 47180, 47181, 47182, 47183, 47184, 47190, and 41791). Perhaps you can also keep the LMS fans happy!

Wow! A fantastic model of a curious loco design: right up my street! Any chance of a cabview?
Chris Heighton - Building the increasingly inaccurately-named Whittle Colliery Railway - Off towards Alnwick!

Spot the Chris as he plays real trains!
Find me on RMweb - mostly 7mm stuff.

Yes David, its all go this weekend for the potting sheds :D, hope 68151 brings back happy memories for you :). Incidentally the LMS 1's are different, 47190 and 47191 were allocated to the Somerset & Dorset (1 of my areas of interest), perhaps if anyone has a drawings I could tackle them forthe midland guys ;).

There is a sort of cabview included, Mike Simpson's V1 Sentinel cab will be included but I'm going to include a seperate .cvf file to link to his V2 sentinel cab (which is much better), I've never tackled cabviews and don't know how the shunters cab looks (going to try and let the Middleton Railway where the preserved example is based, let me have access to her for a day).

I hope your not the only 1, I'm looking forward to driving these things at long last instead of just testing them over short distances.

Quick Update

Going to upload them tomorrow, all except No:81 will be on the site. That is going to be released with the YCR. Either as a seperate download or included on the CD (However John decided to release it :)).

Update

It will be either tomorrow or Monday I hope to get the sentinels up on the site, just tried to upload 1 tonight but it wouldn't work as the uni is been a pain (I can't even attach files to emails here), if I cannot get it up from 1 of the library computers then uploading will be delayed till I return home late May :(.
