Hi Dan
I expect the boilers were inside the building. I don't know if loco movements happened under the screens, but having looked at the pictures of them with 8 plank wagons, I find it hard to imagine it. I believe the boiler house etc is still extant, as is the loco shed and the headgear, so jimmy can get you some good photos of them, hopefully good enough to use as textures. I am currently working on a secret fictional route involving some collieries, so i take it you wont mind me using them when I get the route back. (this route wont get in the way of other things I am doing, so dont worry. I am using it as a way of chilling out, without having to worry about the correct positions of hedges etc like I have with Foxfield.)

Most collierys were built on a slope and the empties were run down using the handbrake. There was usually a horse, tractor or JCB about to push any wagon that got stuck.
The wagons were loaded from a shute which could be swung up clear to let a loco thru. Canvas sheets were hung around the sides above wagon hight to prevent dust. These make the clearance look tight in photos but usually a loco could pass thru. They rarely did tho. They blew down all the muck above them.
Triangles were common for turning end door wagons.
Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to this route.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why does it always happen like this? I went to Caverswall Rd yesterday and it started raining, but I took some pics. However there is so much stock around the site that it was impossiable to get decent square on pics of the buildings. I then went to the first level crossing and took some pics there, and the same at the second, but when I got to Foxfield the place was locked up and is was absolutley pi**ing down with rain.I'm affraid you guys will have to wait until I am next up that way if you want Foxfield pics. P.M. me with an e-mail addy for the other pics though.
Cheers, Jim
