I cant be the only one who thinks those shots look like a simulation of a MODEL RAILWAY. Hornby trees and bushes. Grey foam mounted track. A few rolls of baseboard grass. Hornby track side objects. LED lite signals.

............and plastic rolling stock.

Dont get me wrong, the detail is great. But to me, it looks like a simulation of a model railway, not a real one. The clarity, the sharpness is just not there. Its all soft colours, soft specular lighting, and everything is nice a round to stop little kids hurting themselves.

Im not trying to be patronising. But everything looks to fake to be real. If Auran were aiming to simulate model railways, they've hit the nail perfectly. If i wanted to play model railways on my pc, this is exactly what i would buy. It looks great.

But a realistic simulation it just isnt! The rendering technique is just not right.

Some great screenshots GJC. Well worth taking a look at.

...........but does it really matter ? If you are a train fan then you're going to be into model railway's in some sort of way so Trainz is going appeal in that respect especially if you've no room (or money  ) for a model railway. If like me you're a purist and like the "real" thing the MSTS is going to appeal.

It really depends on what you want and want to do....

As for your last remark...dont think I'm having a go at you personally Lucazone and to be honest I'm not going to get involved in tit for tat arguments between you and IKB/GJC etc but you do seem to get peoples backs up for some reason, I don't know why that is but these forums seem to degenerate into slanging matches just lately and you're never far away from one :-?

Good point :) One which relates to a thread in the Gneral Forum i think. Asking which one is better. The simple answer being , everyone has their own idea of what the ideal TrainSim would have, and thus realistically they are all just as good.

Im not at all saying Trainz is not a good TraimSim. Im saying, in my view it looks like its simulating model railways.....not the real thing. Which is why i use MSTS.

People buy what gives them the most enjoyment. Whether it looks the most realistic or the most playful. So it doesnt matter which one is best.

Fair enough :D

As for MSTS v Trainz...

My preference is MSTS for many reasons one being the authenticity of MSTS, Loco's, Stock even the signalling :D

I'd love a model railway, with 40's, "Peaks" etc but I've no room and
no spare money...

Oh well, just have to win the lottery

There are some 40's, not sure whether they're compatible with TRR 2004 though.
