Magnificent! Where can I get it? Is it a commercial model?

Hi Martin,

Did you mean this one?

[img][album%2033876%20BurlingtonF7s2.jpg%20thumblink][/img]

If so I'll need to do some digging. The loco's are from Train Artisan and were available ages ago. The train is made up, I think, of a beta version of Streamliner coaches that was availbale for a limited time on TA's free download site. A load of stuff, as I recall was shifted into Club TA, a section available to people who donated to a US charity or registered their copy of "American Classics". Apparently some "slimeball" upset TA's good will charity gesture by uploading some of the Club TA models on to a free site. The Club TA section, I have a registered copy of American Classics, had to be shifted and any download was made available upon request. Not sure if there's even a Club TA Gallery anymore, other than the shots on the main page that just say's "available at Club TA" at the bottom of each caption. I notice that all the F7 repaints seem to have dissappeared. All E7's now.

I'm as interested as many of you as to what's going on at Club TA. They were involved in the MSTS "upgrade exercise" and loads of "goodies in the making" have been on their site for over a year now. Last updated June 2003.

I'm sure the Burlington was a freely available beta, but it's so old I can't be sure. I'll gladly e-mail you the zip if I can find it. If you haven't got any of this series the American Classics CD is still available and pretty good. http://www.3dtrains.com/downloads/ has alternative F series stuff and I think they have a "pro-series" only $10 or so to download with other roads stock.

I was hooked on the "railroad" stuff initially but I think the UK side, slow to develop, has rather outstripped it with recent development. Still loads of excellent US stuff available as I'm sure you're aware.

Interested in any feedback from other members on Club TA's status.

Cheers Geoff, yes, that was the picture. I know Dick Cowen has done a very nice F and E series but was not sure if this was it or not.
No, please don't send me the file as it's a commercial and/or restricted one. I have taken a look at the Club TA set up a few times and may chip in with a few dollars for the privilige of getting some nice models.

Yes, I'd noticed that TA had pretty much stopped updating their site. Let's hope they are busy on MSTS2 content, eh?

I am not sure about the quality of UK vs US models these days. One thing is clear - most US models wipe the floor with UK freeware with regard to texturing, but the downside of this is that lots of US model builders or reskinners use 1024x1024 textures and/or a huge number of smaller ones. Their 3D detailing is also high.

But most US routes have far less dense scenery than the best UK ones so they have more polys to spend on engines if you follow me.

Hi Martin,

Files on it's way to you. As I thought it is a beta version. These were freely available on the free downloads section of the TA web site. I checked the discussion on Train-Sim's forums and there is some reasonably intelligent comment about TA's current status, albeit with no actual information. I think the charitable donation idea is excellent and anyone who's into streamliners will find some excellent models and repaints in the Club TA section.

I'm following the Highworth Branch development with interest. Bala hub has to be my current favourite and really sums up your comments on "balance" in where you use your computing power. Not much good it being pretty if it don't run!

SVR has pushed the envelope a good way, but Tim Court's use of lower detail scenery in Mid East UK creates a reasonable "illusion" of a variety of locations from city to the flatness of the Fens and the rolling countryside of the northern parts of his route. Someone commented on a forum recently that they thought it was outdated, but personally I think the developers of LBE could learn a thing or two from this route.

I guess my comments about UK stuff are biased by my recent interest in Steam loco's and the excellent models available on UKTS.

Gaetan Belanger has to be my favourite US modeller at the moment and as he asks for a contribution, rather than sell his models, I think most people would agree that his work is well worth it.

I'm sure he won't mind me including a screenshot from his club page. As a still it's a great painting... as a 3D model it's truly a work of art!
