Are those sliding passenger doors?????

I always thought they were a new invention but I guess tube trains have had them for sometime so why not earlier electric stock.

Yes they are, designed circa 1939, built 1948!

Or were they later modded with SF's?

Just curious
The cross arms, were only used when situated over the driving cab (pre AC convertion) when they reconstructed them to have power equipement in the middle trailer then thay were fitted with stone faiveley panto's, but continued in service (DC operated) for some time with jumpers by-passing the transformer & asociated AC electrical equipement! :scatter:

I rode on these as a boy and then I've ridden the preserved one down the Clacton branch a couple of times (once at Colchester open day around 1989 and once at a Wivenhoe Fair day). Heres the interior.

By the way, what model apparently user has exceeded daily limit!

Tim,

The original units worked on 1500v DC supply and used crossarm pantos, when they were rebuilt at Stratford for 25kV AC supply they were given to S-F pantos.

As built (for 1500 V DC) they were formed DMBS (Panto at Cab end)-TS-DTS, after rebuild at Stratford they were formed as DMS (ex DMBS) - TBS (with S-F pantograph) and DTS, a big difference from the similar Class 506.

Cheers,

Andy.

You probably did do a better explanation there than I did lol! Altho the pics do show [below] original (1500 V DC) DMBS very clearly, then [further up the page] the rebuild work needed to move electrical gear into the TS to create the now (25kV AC) TBS & DMS!

Did you know that there is actually a story behind this picture Image
"This photgraph depicts the inauguration of electric services at Liverpool Street at the opening on 26 september 1949; The Minister of Transport, Alfred Barnes MP, is at the controls.
According to G. F. Fiennes, the official train departed unexpectedly when the Minister was having the controls explained to him. 'Do you mean, like this,' he said, notching up the controller as he did so. Off the train went, with all the doors still open and half the party still on the platform. :o Very fortunately, the signal was off and there was throughout control of the doors. There is no sign of such an incident in this picture, which does however suggest that the photographer was allowed to get quite close to the 1,500V dc overhead lines, and much nearer then would have been permitted today with 25kV ac."

They are the same as the 506 arrangement, for which the model is correct. So i guess uve just rearranged the coaches to move the pantograph.

Your right LucaZone as the pic you have shown here displays a rebuilt AC version where the guards area & pantograph were relocated & this caused there to be a large gap to the first set of doors due to these not being moved ie the screen shot of "work so far" on a 306 being two DTS sandwiching a TBS, rather than having a rebuilt DMBS make a DMS then rebuilt TS make a TBS then an unaltered DTS!

Hi
To be honest I've been busy on a 86cab...plus the fact that as there is nothing I can do with the pantograph, or the sliding door positions...(and that appeared to bother alot of the forum members).
Basically I had resized the original lead car, moved its static doors/windows and then made up a blank end... reversed the s file of
the rear car,and made it into a driverable front car...with a modified front end.
The original thread seemed to just ask for a simply modified model...but this later seemed to take on further requirements.
I did look at substituting a 303 centre powercar(this would give the later pantograph)....but then the body shape profile and bogies didn't look to good.
Cheers
Jon
