HMS Rodney (and a small question to sp762)
just a couple of pics, mainly for sct to get a better look,
i thought i better place them here as all the pics on my last thread were making it very slow loading, model not quite finished yet, unfortuantely is high poly even thus far, :-/
Having arrived and recieved emergency repairs to weather damage recieved in the Atlantic, the Rodney puts to sea and heads back out to seek a more suitable port to make repairs complete.

Actually most of those 'WW2' names are very ancient and traditional RN ship names. All but Rodney were either built before WW1 or ships in WW1 carried those names, (Rodney is the exception being built in the 30s and bearing the name of a famous 18th century Admiral, HMS Nelson was the other ship in her class). If you go back to the navy of Nelson's time and even earlier, those names - except Rodney of course - are all there. When we used to have a real navy, we certainly had good solid macho ships names to go with it!wookey wrote:all those inspiring WW2 names like, Valient, Ark Royal, Conqerer, Revenge, Repulse, Warspite, then....... Rodney? lol, terrifying
Nowadays they get named after cities usually.

I think Rodney needs a couple of tugs pushing her out, don't you?
I'm a fan of Temeraire, Leviathan, Thunderer, Invincible(*) and Dreadnought myself.
(*) a bit of a misnomer, she blew up at Jutland.

hehe, is that a very subtle request Martin?
unfortunately yes, i think she does, so tugs will be in order now too lol,
ah, well, just finish me destroyers then i'll knock up a couple,
shame about Invinsible
ah, Dreadnought herself,
shes an interesting ship, older batttleships seem to have been built to a very different style, quite interesting to compare,

Twas a great pity she wasn't preserved, having met her Waterloo (and the cutters torch) in 1921. But those were the days before the concept of preservation really existed. But, hey wouldn't she be one heck of a tourist attraction at Portsmouth now?
It always irks me that all sorts of media people keeep telling us that HMS Belfast is a 'battleship', as if we can't work out the concept of a cruiser and what jobs they performed. This dumbing down agenda is causing the country to go down the pan just that weeny bit faster.
Where were we? Tugs, yes useful models for all sorts of places, Like - er - docks, for example.
