Sweethaven Harbor Route by Ron Paludan/3DTrains

Post by saddletank »

This is a very nice 1-tile dockside shunting yard route set in 1940s East Coast America (think of Humphrey Bogart and Peter Lorre in deep and not quite legal conversation down on Municipal Pier 39). It's a tiny route, 8 points, 8 sidings and less than 1000m of track all told but set among some delicious run-down dockside scenery with fishing boats, seagulls and down at heel warehouses all around. The route is payware (or rather cheapware I suppose) as it costs $10-00 and you get a Whitcomb 30t 0-4-0 diesel switcher with it and about 8 freight cars. The Whitcomb is tiny, looks like a garden shed with a bonnet and has a really nice custom cab, sounds and physics. The model detail is superb with an engineer and great textures, including nice rusty handrails. All the freight cars are nicely textured although I did see one with a missing wheel.

The route is just a shunting puzzle and comes with 3 activities, a free-form one where you do what you like, a simple shunt with 4 cars and a real humdinger with 7 that took me 90 minutes of good hard thinking to sort out.

The route relies on front coupler use all the time and I'm pleased to say that the loco and car physics are such that I had minimal problems shunting to and fro with both ends of the loco and cars.

A must-have for you shunting freaks and combined with a Raildriver console a good one to let Joe Public have a go at UKTS shows.
