Crews for Highworth locos progress

Post by decapod »

Work is still progressing on Highworth.... I am slowly adding crew to some of the locos.

The route itself should be available in a few weeks (at least before MSTS2 arrives!)

Class 850 Pannier.

Scary. That's me driving! If there's one engine I'd love to 'drive', Paul, it's No.13. ;)

Looks like you've got them cracked Paul, and I know how difficult they are to do.

Martin - You're actually the fireman for the 850, and the driver on the 517.
Your body is driving the 850, but the face is mine
No 13 is next on the list... would you like Pat or Robin as the fireman?

Now I've got the "poser" model working, I can "churn" out crews for almost any loco in reasonably natural looking positions. It still takes a couple of hours to get them sitting correctly, but it means I can make a variety.
It certainly makes a difference to the visual effect of the sim.

and the locos are great

Shape File Manager is the best thing since sliced bread.

Is that enough crawling to get to be a driver?

I posted a message in the Wanted forum for driver photos, but got no replies.... the offer is still open for anyone who wants to appear as a driver.

Ideally I need photos in some kind of overalls, from front, legs and arms slightly apart, palms facing forward.
For the back view, make the photographer move around the subject.

...Eventually I'll be posting my source files and instructions for 3D canvas users so we can all make them ;)

A moderately scary combination ;)

I forgot, if I leave off my jacket and just wear the biballs with a different shirt or a waistcoat that would give a couple more costume combinations.

Oh, and I'll have Robin firing for me on No.13 please - can't risk that Grand Old Lady in the hands of an MR fireman

I was looking at lots of NER crew photos (around 1900) - a lot of them were wearing jackets with only the top button done up.

Looked quite odd, there must have been a reason (or was it just fashion?)

Very much a fashion of the times up until about WW1. A strange trend as it makes them all look like they have beer guts (or accentuates whatever beer gut there is into a bigger one).

It also isn't until about the 20s when railway companies became much more customer-aware that footplate crews begin to wear a 'uniform'. Until then any old civvies could be worn.

Lovely. But was is Robin looking at my bum for? Is he looking for somewhere to stow his pricker?(*)

*Note to non-steam people: A pricker is a long iron rod with a point and a curved end, used to break holes in clinker and get more air circulating through a fire.

We now have 5 different sets available ready for the release of the route.

For those of you that have found my "gallery" website, they can be downloaded from there.

The ever popular Dean Goods now has a crew...

Downloadable from the Work in Progress page on my gallery web site

Was the GWR the only UK company that drove from the right?

I shall now attempt to take all these crew sets and mirror them all so they can be used as crew for other company locos.

I'll even take requests if there are loco's you use a lot and would like to see with a crew (provided I have a copy too) - they do not need to be locos I have built. e.g. Kujus Flying Scotsman

Crew footwear

Post by LocoLes »

They (the crew members) are great Paul.
On the lighter side though, is the man in white trainers going to be issued with a pair of regulation Great Western boots eventually?! “Ouch! you dropped that piece of coal on my footâ€
