The name is intentional.
The Scotch goods was a fast fitted freight between Kings Cross goods and Niddrie.
The name could be a referance to the load southbound but more likely it was just English ignorance.

Another example being Scotch Eggs? (Or are the true ones marinaded in Scotch?...more likely it was just English ignorance.
