About to throw the baby out with the bathwater

Post by valiant222 »

Just had new computer built as the old one expired, probably due to excess use of MSTS and FS9!!
Stayed with XP as it was an option, although I was advised that XP can't handle 4GB RAM, so I went with the 2GB. I thought everything would be hunky dory when I loaded up MSTS, just like the old computer.

Now when running any route (and I seem to have most of them) after about 5 minutes it crashes to a black screen which says "No Signal" the sound continues for about 30 seconds then goes to a buzzing noise. Have to switch of at the plug and reboot.

This does not happen with FS9 or any other application or watching videos.

My computer spec is as below. Should I have stayed with and ATI card?

Dying to see more of the NWC route and Dorset Coast V6

Any help would be appreciated.

Chris

Sounds like the graphics card overheating/ not seated in its slot properly.

The fans on graphics cards can seize up, not a problem when surfing the net etc, but put a load on it and it could cut out.

Yes Steve you are probably right. Went up to that computer last night and discovered that a USB external drive was close to a vent in the side of the case.
Ran part of a Great Eastern activity (LvSt to Shenfield) with no problems. So that might have fixed it.

Mind you it ran Railworks with no problems!! or the bit that I understood :( the only problem is me trying to understand how it all works. Mehinks i am a bit too old for new programs now

As an aside, do you have any recomended settings for the Nvidia graphic card for MSTS.
