Outstanding EMUs

Post by rufuskins »

I have now completed my review of available virtual models for EMUs, and have models for nearly all TOPS classes except as noted below:
1. Class 307 which I understand ran on the Southend route(?). Any volunteers to make one, or alternatively is there an existing EMU class that could be modified?
2. Class 422 - this is a 4BIG(?) version of the class 421, and which I believe was coupled to a Class 421 at one time to form an 8DIG. I suppose therefore that a class 421 could be amended but where would I get the buffet car (TRB) from or what could be amended?
3. Class 499 - obviously not an EMU in so far as it is a TLV but because of its Southern connotations and possible relationship to a MLV(Class 419) I have included it here. Which BG type vehicle could I use - will look in my carriage downloads later? I understand that the MLV was longer than the TLV?
4. Class 502 - any volunteers to make one, or alternatively is there an existing EMU class that could be modified?
5. Class 503 - any volunteers to make one, or alternatively is there an existing EMU class that could be modified?

Any help would be appreciated?

Ruf

PS Class 316 is also outstanding but as other posts show I am looking at how to "cobble" together 457001 plus a Class 313 PTSO (NSE livery) and amend the number to 316999 - that's the hard part for me. Can not do 316997 yet as this was created from a Class 307 - see above.

PPS Still working on the prototype diesels and TOPS diesels. Class 47s and the prototypes are the last to be sorted; currently amending the ENG files for the different sub classes to the Class 47. All other TOPS finished but carrying out the final checks. I was going to quote numbers but let's just say that I have sufficient to vary the proposed activites' stock lists. I should remind people that if and when I upload any activity the stock will be based on the UKTS nomenclature.

PPPS BR Carriages are next on the list, but fitted in between driving trains on the recent crop of newly installed and reinstalled routes.

PPPPS Er, I had better stop, or I'll be telling everyone my life story! According to my wife MSTS is my life (story)!!!!!

Hi,

Have done bit of diggin:

422 could be fairly easily modified from a Mark 1 TRB (this was basically all they were) - the TRB had an extra Motor Generator for power and water tank. For ease though, it would probably be ok to use it as it was. This was placed in position of the TSO. It was indeed known as a BIG and was usually coupled to form a DIG.

If memory serves well they were created to replace 73/33 TC/REP combos until 442s became ready for service?

Alot of the modifications were simply swaps or slight conversions from other vehicles.

Thanks for the confirmation of some of my own research, and I will find the necessary TRB/TRSB as suggested.

I've also got plans to create an 8MIG which comprised 4CIG+RMB+3CIG (no TSO) even though they only ran during the summer of 1983?

Still waiting for a Class 307 volunteer!

Prior to sorting the creation of a duplicate of LBE, I compared the 306 and 307. Yes they are similar in basic shape, but the window arrangement is quite a lot different.

So it's back to the research.

Again thanks for the suggestion.

If no trailer is available, could a suitable one be used from something else? If you were doing it for personal use then a cut and paste may be your answer, but remember if you intend to publish it - always ask the origional owner first!!! One unit I've always wanted is 999600/601 ( Railtrack 150) but I can't find any good enough straight on side shots to modify a 150 to do it.

To do a realy good re-skin though you would need as sqaure on as possible, or an over lapping section photo.

Having put the Class 307 and Class 316 on the back burner, I have been rooting about for a TRSB - Trailer Restaurant Standard Buffet - model.

There are photos on the East Somerset Railway web site showing some TRSBs (69313 and 69334) in NSE livery, and these indicate that the layout/external appearance is different from the typical Mk 1 RMB models on UKTS. Therefore at this moment in time I am stymied for creating a reasonably realistic Class 420 (4BIG) and also the Class 422 (8DIG); the latter combining a 4BIG plus 4CIG.

However I can create a Class 482 (8MIG), albeit that the unit numbers may not be quite correct, which comprised 4CIG+RMB+3CIG - two of them ran for a short time in 1983. Can someone confirm that this was in the Blue-Grey livery?

Ruf

PS Still looking at the available information for the TLV (Class 499) to see if an existing UKTS model can be used/adapted.

Well that wasn't very painful, as I now discover that the TLVs were created from BGs, and there are several UKTS models that can therefore be used. As they were used between 1968 and 1975 (?) livery must have been typical blue-grey - unless of course someone knows better?

As these ran in 1983 and InterCity and NSE liveries didn't appear until 1984'ish, I shall work on the basis of a blue-grey livery!

Why didn't I think of this before!! :o

I could try and use the TRB from the 4BEP models in UKTS, although they are only in NSE and SWT liveries. :(

Don't appear to quite match the photos on the East Somerset site, but are a better match than using an RMB. :(

Of course I may have to try and amend the livery to blue-grey - [gulps nervously]
