My freind (well and me) wants to know where the exhaust of a 153 is?ive looked on my pacers, sprinters and turbos video to see the 153 accelerating and to see where the fumes are, culdn't see any. The exhaust arent on the roof are they? well definatly not on either end as theres cabs there!.

A properly tuned diesel engine produces no visible smoke, only a shimmering heat haze.Any such smoke indicates fouled fuel injectors, injection timing wongly set,and general bad maintenance.
However the gullible public expect trains to smoke,as stated in a previous post, little realising the inhalation of diesel engine byproducts is as serious as cigarette smoking,if not more so.
It's the microscopic unburnt particles of vanadium, and catalytic fines left over from the refinery crackers that do the damage.

The 153 exaust is indeed in the small cab end and protrudes very slightly
I reckon diesel smoke is overdone in many cases
Anyone got any really good photos of the Swansea to Shrewsbury ones as mine was based partly on guesswork
The problem is getting a photo of the whole of both sides as they are different
Any help much appreciated
Cheers

Thanks MIke, one site I hadn't been to but still no 'orange' Heart of Wales ones.
I did my repaints from the original designs which appeared on website of the manufacturer of the vinyls
They were changed on the actual units
There's been a few photo's in magazines bu mainly three-quarter shots
I wouldh've thought large phot's of them wouldh've appeared on the Wales and Borders website as it must've been very costly to do only four units

Heart of Wales
Try http://www.walesandborderstrains.co.uk . Under the News and Services link there's a picture gallery with two shots, again three quarters (probably the ones that the mags use). You may have already seen them, but maybe again not.
Also try http://www.therailwaycentre.com/Pages%2 ... U_153.html as that's a bit of a closer shot (a little bit down the page)....
Hope this helps,
Jonathan
