What methods are there for recording things in trainsim, or any other games application, into movie files (.avi/.mpeg).
Anyone know?

Not tried this..............
If you've got a "TV Out" thingy on your computer, plug it into your video UHF input (you might need to but a connecting plug to do it, 59p from Focus) and tune your video into the UHF Frequency that the TV Out is broadcasting on. As I said, I've not tried it (yet) might be even easier if you've got a digital TV box thingy.............
On my list of "things to do soon"
Cheers,
Andy.

I keep meaning to do this, but I never get around to it.
Connect a DV camera to the s-video port on the graphics card (if you have one) then record the various scenes.
Take the DV into an non-linear editing program (either the freebie Mac/Windows editing programs like imovie or more expensive Adobe premiere/Final cut pro/Avid) . Then edit the rushes, produce the final movie and maybe add post production. Compress into DVX/Quicktime/real or your favourite CODEC. Burn to cd, record to Tape or upload to the NET.

The program is called Camtasia Studio and is shareware.
ie; 30 days fully operational use and thereafter all your productions will be stamped with the words "evaluation version".
Snagit has only limited video usage so go for Camtasia.
2 drawbacks, you need to use a mike in front of your speakers to grab the audio unless you have a soundblaster live card. Also if you grab the movie fullscreen you'll likely get a virtual slideshow, you need to be able to run your program in a window and grab it at 320x240 to get good frame rates.
Download link,

Best of luck.

Far too complicated! And you'll need a monstrous power PC!
Use the video out method (or park you camcorder in front of the monitor) and then run the resultant video back in on a video in and convert to MPEG!
I use Videowave I got with my Belkin S-Video In USB thingamajigga!
...now there's an idea - a W2 Sneak Preview Video....
